The show began with a video montage of the "Queens of the Ring" Tournament, then cut to Madusa Miceli, Melissa Santos, and Noel Harlow sitting at the commentary booth inside an empty WRAL studios.
Madusa Miceli: "Welcome to the hottest sixty minutes in wrestling, Show Time Femme Fatales! I'm your hostess Madusa Miceli. With me is the sultry and spicy Melissa Santos and our favorite red hot chili pepper, Noel Harlow. This week, we will take a look back at the historic 'Queens of the Ring' Tournament, which took place this past weekend at Charlotte, NC's Bank of America Stadium. Over 70,000 fans took in the event, making it a critical success. On today's episode, we will watch highlights from night one."
Melissa Santos: "This was one of the most phenomenal events to be a part of live. Fans, if you missed it, you must watch these highlights!"
Noel Harlow: "It was such a privilege to call the action with you ladies and our incomparable emcee, Jim Ross!"
Miceli: "We have sixteen matches to cover this hour, so let's get to it!"
Match One ~ Io & Mio Shirai vs. "She Wolves"--Hania the Huntress & "Nordic Valkyrie" Nina
This one did not last long. "She Wolves" were clearly outmatched by the NWA: Show Time Tag Team Champions. They basically got no credible offense in. Io and Mio have worked together for most of their lives and it showed. After an "Implant DDT" by Mio, Io scaled the ropes for her "Moonsault" and this one was history.
Winners = Io & Mio Shirai by pinfall in 3:23
(For the sake of space, commentary will be cut in between matches)
Match Two ~ "Divas of Destruction"--Celeste & Kahmora vs. "The Harem"--Jasmin Areebi & Jamilia Craft with Rima Fakih
This match was shorter than the first. "DoD" hit the ring like "The Road Warriors" and laid waste to "The Harem," even taking out manager Rima Fakih. Celeste and Kahmora even paid homage to the "Warriors" by finishing the match with the "Doomsday Device."
Winners = "Divas of Destruction" by pinfall in 1:12
Match Three ~ "Shamrock Sorority"--Kasey & Leah Owens vs. "Fifutishēdo"--"Madame" Michiko Omukai & "Dominatrix" Mika Nishio with "Mistress" Yinling
Yinling was the difference here. Kasey Owens had ascended to the top rope for a dive, when Yinling whipped her across the back of the head with a riding crop, sending her crashing to the canvas and allowing Omukai to gain the controversial pin.
Winners = "Fifutishēdo" by pinfall in 6:34
Match Four ~ "The Dollhouse"--Santana Garret & Mandy Leon vs. "Team Bestie"--Trish Stratus & Amy Dumas
The crowd was really into this match and gave "Team Bestie" a huge round of applause when they made their entrance. Trish and Lita (Dumas) didn't seem to miss a beat. They kept their younger opponents off balance with good tandem offense. After a "Stratusphere" on Leon, Dumas hit the "Litasault" for the victory and a roar of approval from the audience. Score one for nostalgia!
Winners = "Team Bestie" by pinfall in 8:15
Match Five ~ "Belleza Escondido"--Lluvia & Sexy Lady vs. "Niños Más Malo de la Cuadra"--Vanely & Chica Tormenta
This one was a lot of the flip, flop, and fly that Lucha Libre is known for. There never was a dominant team in this match. The end came on a whirling dervish that saw Lluvia catch Tormenta in the "Octopus Cradle" for the pin.
Winners = "Belleza Escondido" by pinfall in 7:45
Match Six ~ "Kyūtīpai"--Cherry & Chiharu vs. "Gothic Goddesses"--Buggy Nova & Christina Von Eerie
This match actually went the ten-minute time limit (for a first round match). Commissioner Yuzuki Aikawa made the proclamation that a draw was unsatisfying and that "Kyūtīpai" would advance due to having the highest percentage of offense during the match.
Winners = "Kyūtīpai" by official decision in 10:00
Match Seven ~ "Crush Gals"--Chigusa Nagayo & Lioness Asuka vs. "Twin lizzie"--Lizzie Valentine & Lizzie Raze
"Crush Gals" were a big hit with the fans, as they represent the greatest women's tag team ever. At over fifty years old per woman (the oldest combination in the tournament), they were in phenomenal shape and were still a fluid team. Although "Twin Lizzie" was capable, they were no match for the veteran duo.
Winners = "Crush Gals" by pinfall in 5:56
Match Eight ~ "Luchadoras Supremas"--Lady Jaguar & Silueta vs. "Double Inoue"--Takako & Kyoko Inoue
The Inoue's are one of the greatest tag teams ever, period. It was evident early on. The Lucha style was no match for strong-style puroresu in this one. After "Takako's Night Night" on Silueta, Kyoko nailed the "Niagara Driver" for the finish.
Winners = "Double Inoue" by pinfall in 8:27
Match Nine ~ "Queen Kongs"--Aja & Awesome Kong vs. "Suicide Blondes"--Jennifer Blake & Erin Angel
Blake and Angel were a formidable match-up, but realistically were outclassed against the Kongs. Aja and Awesome are a dominant force and the anchor for "Joshi Mafia." They can be beaten, but it takes a Herculean effort to accomplish. the "Blondes" were not Herculean on this night.
Winners = "Queen Kongs" by pinfall in 6:06
Match Ten ~ "Daughters of Destiny"--Tessa Blanchard & Shaul Guerrero vs. "The Dollhouse"--Eve Torres & Taryn Terell
This was a very evenly -matched contest. Both teams had moments of brilliance on offense. The match was back-and-forth, with no clear superiority established. The end result was not without controversy. Blanchard hit Terrell with her "Slingshot Back Suplex," but the referee was distracted by Taeler Hendrix at ringside. Torres snuck in to cheap shot Blanchard and take out Guerrero, allowing Terrell to hit her "Taryn Cutter" for the pin.
Winners = "The Dollhouse" by pinfall in 8:38
Match Eleven ~ "Joshi no Densetsu"--Manami Toyota & Toshiyo Yamada vs. "Dahlia"--Arisa Nakajima & Nagisa Nozaki
This was a phenomenal match, easily the best of the night. Both puro teams' abilities were in full display. Toyota and Yamada are one of the greatest women's tag teams of all time, and they haven't missed a beat. "Dahlia" was a more than capable foil. Ultimately, the experience as a team of Toyota and Yamada helped them reign supreme. Toyota landed a "MIssile Dropkick" on Nakajima that sent her directly into Yamada's "Screw Kick" for the dynamic finish.
Winners = "Joshi no Densetsu" by pinfall in 9:28
Match Twelve ~ "Jumping Bomb Angels"--Itsuki Yamazaki & Noriyo Tateno vs. Yumi Ohka & Black Lotus
The nostalgia train rolled on with the legendary "Jumping Bomb Angels" looking to turn back time against the brand new tandem of Yumi Ohka and Black Lotus, who entered the tournament after a time-limit draw against one another on Show Time Femme Fatales gave them a healthy dose of mutual respect a few weeks back. That respect apparently did not last long, as Black Lotus (a self-professed "lone wolf" type) abandoned Ohka in the middle of the match. With no one to tag to, she became fodder for the "Angels." They eventually nailed a "Double Dropkick" to her face for the win.
Winners = "Jumping Bomb Angels" by pinfall in 6:48
Match Thirteen ~ "LayCool"--Michelle McCool & Layla El vs. "Broken Toys"--"Evil Angel" Shax & Annie Social
The last of our legends teams did not disappoint. "LayCool" often looked at as one of the best WWE women's teams and put into a similar category with "Team Bestie," were nearly "flawless," as their old tag line used to suggest. Social and Shax are good in their own right. However, experience trumps inexperience oftentimes. It did in this instance, as "LayCool" finished Shax with an assited "Faith Breaker."
Winners = "LayCool" by pinfall in 8:35
Match Fourteen ~ "Mala Chicas Culo"--Sarah Stock & Ayako Hamada vs. "Deadly Down Under"--Tenille Averil & Jessie McKay
This match was a combination of elements we have seen on multiple occasions in NWA: Show Time. The classic battle between the Lucha Libre style and the more traditional, harder-hitting European/Canadian orientation. It always makes for an up-and-down match. Stock and Ayako were just too good. They proved to be too much,. as McKay succumbed to "La Reienera."
Winners = "Mala Chicas Culo" by submission in 5:57
Match Fifteen ~ British Bombshells"--Hannah & Holly Blossom with Saraya Knight vs. "Kyūtīpai"--Misaki Ohata & Maki Nurimiya
The British twins were outwrestled, but came away with the victory after Knight interfered on their behalf. She tripped Ohata after she bounded off the ropes. Ohata went after Knight, but was intercepted by the Blossoms and leveled with the "Blossom Bomb."
Winners = "British Bombshells" by pinfall in 4:18
Match Sixteen ~ "Muscle Venus"--Tsukasa Fujimoto & Hikaru Shida vs. "Pep Patrol"--Kelly Klein & Su Yung
Shida was the star in this one. She almost singlehandedly won the match. Her athletic prowess was on full display. "PP" became frustrated and actually cost themselves the match with a miscommunication on an attempted double-team of Fujimoto. Shida took advantage with "Majo no Ichigeki." Tsukasa covered for the win in the last first round match.
Winners = "Muscle Venus" by pinfall in 8:44
Miceli: "As you can see, the 'Queens of the Ring' was a historic event. The first round alone was better than most entire tournaments."
Santos: "These ladies put it all on the line, with the 'win or go home' mentality."
Harlow: "The single-elimination format gave each team a sense of urgency to leave nothing in the tank."
Miceli: "I was so happy to see all four of my legends teams make it into night two. Congrats to everyone who made it into the second round! Next week, we will look at highlights of the 'Queens of the Ring' night two. For Melissa Santos and Noel Harlow, I'm Madusa Miceli, saying, we'll see ya next week!"
