Commentary announces that Becky Lynch is out of Survivor Series with a concussion & a shattered face (not just a broken nose as originally reported, but now a shattered face) and shows footage of Nia Jax clocking her with the errant strike that did the deal.
AJ Styles makes his entrance. He says this Sunday, for the second year in a row, he steps in the ring with Brock Lesnar. For 371 days he’s defended the WWE Championship against the best that sports entertainment has to offer, day in and day out, a workhorse since the day he got here. He’s wrestled dream opponents, nightmare opponents, and he’s beat them all.
...all except for Brock, but now he gets a second chance. Most don’t survive the first, but he plans on doing more than just surviving, and he intends-- Paul Heyman is arguing with ring announcer Greg Hamilton but AJ tells him to give him the mic and Paul introduces himself in his usual fashion. He says he came here with all due respect because last night on Raw he told the entire WWE Universe that there’s no one that his client wants to fight more than Styles.
And the reason for that is when you think of the greatest in-ring performers in WWE history, from Ricky “the Dragon” Steamboat to the “Nature Boy” Ric Flair to the “Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels, you think of AJ Styles, who’s this close to being as good as number one, Daniel Bryan. We’re never going to see Bryan vs. Lesnar, but, and don’t think of AJ as a consolation prize, but it’ll be a privilege for Lesnar to step in the ring with the second-greatest in-ring performer in WWE history.
Styles says he sees what he’s doing, he’s trying to get under his skin. But just so you know, he’s got nothing but respect for Bryan and he always has. But don’t forget that he didn’t just beat Dan, he tapped him out, and he hasn’t forgotten about last year. Lesnar won, but he walked out with head high and under his own two feet where Brock limped out.
That tells AJ he’s vulnerable. For 371 days he’s gotten better at tapping people out, while Lesnar’s spent that time becoming more vulnerable to being tapped out, and that gives Styles one extra path to victory. Sunday won’t be about Brock or Daniel Bryan, it’ll be about the Face That Runs the Place, the Champ That Runs the Camp, the Phenomenal AJ Styles!
Enter Daniel Bryan. He says he’s not sure why they’re talking about him, yes he had a title match two weeks ago and yes he did tap out, no excuses, but he told him before that match that he respects him, and he meant that. He also said he’s been looking for a reason to punch AJ in the face, and he sure as hell meant that too, so you mention his name one more time without reason and you’re getting punched in the face.
Bryan goes to leave and AJ calls him back, pointing out that Heyman brought up his name, not Styles. He thought they were cool and they hugged it out, but he wants to get it straight-- when someone asks who the best technical wrestler he’s been in the ring with is, he can’t tell him Daniel Bryan? BRYAN HAULS OFF AND PUNCHES HIM! WE’VE GOT A BRAWL!
Shane McMahon, referees Charles Robinson and Jason Ayers, and road agents five-time NWA World Heavyweight Champion Adam Pearce and Jamie Noble hit the ring to pull them apart! More referees (including John Cone in street clothes, for some reason) hit the ring to keep them separated.
