Nick Aldis is the #1 contender to the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title no more, with Billy Corgan changing the title match for NWA 74. As previously reported, Aldis won the Race to the Chase Tournament Finals on this week’s episode of NWA Powerrr to earn a shot at Trevor Murdoch and the championship at the August 27th and 28th PPV.
However, all that changed when Aldis posted to Twitter and accused Corgan of “goalpost-moving” and suggested that “forces” were going to take him out of the match, writing:
“I told you I would out think them all. No matter what kind of goalpost-moving goes on, I find a way to win. But I’m not naive; I know there are forces who don’t want to see me as champion again, and a lot can happen between now and #NWA74…your move…”
In response, Corgan appeared on Busted Open Radio this morning and announced that he had removed Aldis from the match, saying (per Fightful):
“The good news is the growth of the NWA and the Resurgence of the NWA in the modern era, is bringing pressure inside the locker room. Everybody is jousting for position, as they should be. But in the case of Nick Aldis, yes, number one contender for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship against Trevor Murdoch in St. Louis, I’ve dealt with this man for over four years and for every ounce of politicking that you see publicly, there’s about ten times worse behind the scenes. No one stresses me out more in the NWA than Nick Aldis . No one is more highly paid than Nick Aldis, and no one is more unhappy than Nick Aldis.
“So yes, Nick Aldis won a tournament, the Race to the Chase, to become the number one contender… I mean, I’m 55 years old. I’ve got two little kids, I’ve got a musical life, this kind of junk, I just can’t take it anymore. So, I’m here to break some news. He has been stripped of the number one contendership and will not be in the main event at NWA 74.”

As a result, NWA World Television Champion Tyrus will face Murdoch for the Worlds Heavyweight Championship.
A new report has some details on why Nick Aldis was removed from the Worlds Heavyweight Championship match at NWA 74. PWInsider reports that “there is some truth” in Corgan’s comments on Busted Open Radio that Aldis’ politicking has become an issue and that the two sides are not getting along at all like they previously did.
According to the site, sources close to the matter have indicated that the situation between the two sides have been falling apart and finally boiled over, with one source noting that Aldis has been critical of the creative direction for the company. The creative for the NWA is described as “100% Corgan’s vision” and there was a breakdown between the two over it. Another source said there was “magma-level” heat on Aldis for promoting himself as above the company and criticizing Corgan’s decisions.
As noted, Tyrus will now face Trevor Murdoch for the title at the August PPV. Aldis is still planned for the PPV as of this afternoon and a new opponent will be announced for him. Aldis is said to be under contract with the NWA through the end of 2022.
