I had always had the main event here mixed up with the 1995 Uncensored event. The Doomsday Match where Savage and Hogan have to face someone as part of the "Alliance to Destroy Hulkamania". Well it's here instead of 1995, but what a whacky match that is...but that's the Main Event.
Many of my DVD's of these events have the countdown show. This one here is WCW's Main Event, and there's some solid matches on here actually. Main Event of that is Nasty Boys vs The Steiner Bros. Probably better than many of the PPV matches.
Match 1: Konnan vs Eddie Guerrero (United States Championship)
Konnan is the defending Champion here against the young Eddie Guerrero. Konnan had a pretty solid run in 1996 with this title. Quite a bit of Submission wrestling in this match. After a competitive back and forth match, Konnan wins off of a low blow that was possibly accidental. Tony Schiavone questions it, Bobby Heenan justifies it saying you take a win however lol. Decent enough opener. Nothing special, but ok. I'd give it 2 stars I suppose.
Match 2: Lord Steven Regal vs The Belfast Bruiser
The Bruiser is Fit Finlay. They even refer to him early in the match as "Fit Finlay The Belfast Bruiser" so basically they just decided later on to go with Finlay all the time I suppose. We have a moment of commentary gold here when Tony tells Bobby that he's 0 for 3 tonight when saying "He got him" and the match continues, and then a few moments later he starts being a smartass and saying "He don't got him!" or "He didn't get him!" to even out the score lol. This is actually a pretty rough and physical brawl. These 2 guys styles' mesh well, and it seems like they work so stiffly that they get hardway blood from each other. The only thing that brings it down is there's not a clean finish as Regal's group The Blue Bloods come out to attack The Bruiser who wins by DQ. I'd give it a 2.5 though in spite of that. Fun match, wild brawl.
Match 3: Madusa vs Col. Rob Parker
This is an odd match. Intergender Woman Wrestler vs Manager match. Apparently the 2 had just gotten married or something? That's the storyline anyway, I don't know what the hell the match is taking place for, but Madusa dominates most of the wrestling with Parker occasionally showing off his mannish power when the opportunity presents itself. He wins the match when Madusa has him in a german suplex and is tripped from outside by Dick Slater, The Colonel rolls over on top of her, and gets the pin. 1 star match. Just kinda odd, but I suppose that's Uncensored for ya.
Match 4: Diamond Dallas Page vs The Booty Man
So "The Booty Man" is Ed Leslie in one of his many personas, his 3rd in the last few years in WCW. DDP comes into the match disheveled as he's lost all of his money or something, his hair looks raggedy and his career is on the line in this match. He wins and gets all his dough back or loses and his career is over. I'm not sure how they got around that so fast, but Booty Man wins the match after Kimberly slaps DDP and Booty Man hits him. I feel stupid typing Booty Man so many times lol. 1 star
Match 5: Lochness vs The Giant
It's a Giant vs Giant Match. Lochness is enormous at 700 plus pounds. All of it wide. The Giant you all know. The winner of this match gets a shot at Ric Flair the next night on Nitro. It's just kinda a sloppy brawl, but the Giant does take an impressive bump at one point as he does a Stinger Splash type move and takes a tumble all the way over the top. He finishes it with a big boot and leg drop, not completely like Hogan, but somewhat similar. 1 star match, but short and actually effective for what it was, not one of the great matches though.
Match 6: Booker T & Sting vs The Road Warriors - Chicago Street Fight
This is a weird and unusual pairing. I assume Stevie Ray was injured or something, Luger is involved in some sorta contract thing with Jimmy Hart a stipulation from a match I'm guessing, and can't team with Sting. So we get Sting teaming with Booker. Apparently Sting promised Harlem Heat a title shot if they win the match with Booker's help. A Texas Tornado Free For All with all 4 men legal at the same time, and fighting all over. A real brawl. Sting is the first one to resort to going toward the back to grab a chair. Quite a few Chair blows are exchanged. First he hits Animal with it, then makes his way to the ring to hit Hawk twice. Right as they think they got control Animal comes in grabs the chair and nails Sting and Booker. These guys battle back and forth in a grueling slugfest for a long time. Some pretty big spots in there like Hawk coming off the top to meet Booker T's well timed dropkick or Sting being caught coming off the top and powerslammed. The brawl goes on for a long time, finally it looks like Booker T is saying to hell with it, and going to the back to bail, Animal gets into it with Luger who's in the back, and then gets jumped by Luger and Stevie Ray and handcuffed to a post in the back. Booker T. then comes back out to help now that he and Sting have a 2 to 1 advantage over Hawk. Stevie Ray gets another shot in getting a chair shot to the back of the head of Hawk allowing Booker T. to get the pin. Harlem Heat are now entitled to a title shot according to the agreement Booker had with Sting. I actually liked this match a lot. An all out brawl with all kinds of "plunder" as Dusty Rhodes would say broken out. A rock solid 3.5 star match. Probably the only time Booker T and Sting paired up as a team, and it was awesome.
