We're less than a week out before what could be the start of a movement.
What does it mean for C.M. Punk & Bryan Danielson to come to AEW?
When AEW first started, when Dynamite launched people were like, 'hey Punk should show up on the first show' not just because of the Lex Luger thing & that was probably part of it, not going to say it wasn't, but there was more to it then that.
Punk is very much the antithesis of everything that is anti-WWE especially to the fans who were like super anti-WWE. He is to many the patron saint, he represents all of that. He is the guy that predates Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson). He was the guy that kept hitting the wall, hitting the wall, hitting the wall. He was THE indy star & now it's like an indy star who cares, but when he signed everyone was like thought he had a fairly good chance because he's good on the mic. Not that he would be THE guy, not that he would be the top star or anything like that, people thought upper mid-card guy, he was good on the mic, they could get behind him a little bit & it would be fine. Of course he kind of shattered that, but of course through the way that everything was handled, the fact that how the fans wanted him to be used he never really was, when the fans wanted him to get pushed he never really was, he was never THE guy, it was Cena to an extent, but oftentimes he was the third guy, he wasn't even the second guy sometimes. So it was problematic and fans were frustrated, he was frustrated, he left, we all know the rest of the story & he became like this is everything that is wrong with this company there you go.
Enter Bryan Danielson/Daniel Bryan when Punk left got the benefit of that because then fans were like now we're pissed & there's THE guy & so now we're going to get behind this guy & of course WWE we all know the story of their reaction to that.
And by all accounts they're both coming to AEW & they're both going to get very good, but different reactions in my opinion. Because they represent 2 very different things:
So Punk, Punk very much, AEW is at the point now we're they have that connection to the fanbase like ECW. Fans react in AEW, they react in WWE, but it's not to the same extent, it doesn't feel like a hot show where AEW does, but they're starting to get that ECW kind of feel & there's a lot of AEW fans that feel like they're part of the promotion, they're part of it's growth, they are part of all of this & so then you have C.M. Punk & Punk is a very big part of that & people thought that Punk should be on that first Dynamite because he represents a lot of that, he very much represents what ECW was in a lot of ways and some of that was hype, some of that was Paul Heyman manipulation, but that's what it was, but Punk still represents a lot of that. Punk is, what Punk is, he is very much the PUNK part of this, like the Punk Rock, the in your face, anti-authorityism, anti-WWE, all of that. If you want to get a good example of him & Bryan Danielson would be kind of like (and I'm probably going to piss some people off here & that's ok) it's kind of true in a mythos type sense.
C.M. Punk is very much a John the Baptist, if you know your theology, he came first, he prepared the church that would become Jesus' church & his followers, John was more of the rebel, he more of the revolutionist in some ways & paved the way for Jesus to come, in this case Daniel Bryan, Punk paved the way for Daniel Bryan so it's very much like that.
So Punk's going to debut, it's going to be very visceral, it's going to be very anti-WWE everyone should expect that, you should expect the fans to be anti-WWE, he's going to be the guy that says now is the time to strike, now is the time to unleash on WWE, it's going to be that moment. Everyone expects that & Punk in some ways he's going to do that because he's Punk & that's what he's going to do so there is that.
And then you have Daniel Bryan and when he signed with WWE everyone was like he'll probably get good money, he'll be a good mid-carder, he'll be a good worker, he'll make a lot of guys look really good, we were all so fucking wrong it's not even funny because they were all like eh he's ok on the mic, but he's not great on the mic & in WWE that's a big part of it. Again none of us knew a fucking thing. Bryan becomes THE hand-picked guy by the fans, he becomes the guy that everyone wants except WWE & so we had to go through all that & he becomes that & I think in a lot of ways when he debuts in AEW it's going to be very different, it's going to be all about HOPE. He's going to debut, The Final Countdown is going to start, people are going to go crazy, he's going to debut, not sure if it's going to be the clean shaven ROH World Champion, is going to be like, 'I'm completely back to my true self' & I think you're going to see grown men crying out of joy, like oh my god, he's finally free, we're going to get everything that we wanted & we're going to get all of that sort of stuff, but it will be like that, I firmly believe that people will be that emotionally involved because he represents that, he represents what everyone wants wrestling to be & I think that's a big part of it
Punk's going to arrive & be fuck you Vince, fuck you WWE, fuck you to everyone that screwed him over and then we'll wait a little while & Bryan will arrive and will be like finally it's time to go & all that stuff that we've dreamed of, all of that hope we're going to see & I think that's a very, very big thing
