MLW is revving up the gears for their new TV deal with Vice. They closed their season with a bang to reveal Dario Cueto as El Jefe of Aztec Underground. MLW returns on July 10 in Philadelphia in front of fans. In the meantime, they are reloading the roster. The first new signing is Davey Richards.
MLW announced the news during their Open Draft gimmick. The concept teases new signings by MLW, Azteca Underground, and Dan Lambert recruiting a new fighter over the coming weeks. In the Open Draft debut, Richards was interviewed by Alicia Atout.
Richards explained that he actually signed a few months ago. He is excited to compete at the highest level again. When Richards announced his return to professional wrestling, several companies made offers. MLW stood out as a sports-oriented option.
Richards had to take a break to recharge his batteries. He now has no other desire than to become champion. Richards has his eye on the world title to remind everyone who is the best wrestler in the world.
Richards has had a decorated career winning gold in numerous promotions. In NJPW, he is a two-time title holder of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship with Rocky Romero as part of the No Remorse Corps. In ROH, he is a former World Champion and three-time tag champ with Romero once as the NRC and Eddie Edwards twice as The American Wolves . In TNA, he is a five-time tag champ with Eddie Edwards as The Wolves. Richards was ranked 7th in the PWI 500 for 2012.
There are a lot of interesting matchups for Richards in MLW. His former partner Romero has been dabbling with the promotion. A mat duel with Tom Lawlor is enticing. Since Richards has his eye on gold, he would have to go through the big dogs of Jacob Fatu as MLW World Heavyweight Champion or Alexander Hammerstone as MLW National Openweight Champion. Richards could also decide to chase Myron Reed for the MLW World Middleweight Championship. If Richards gets the itch for sun and sand, then Richard Holliday better hold his Caribbean Championship tight.
Are you excited to see Davey Richards back in the ring? Do you think he is a good fit for MLW? Who do you want to see him wrestle in MLW?
