William Regal: "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the finest sixty minutes of pro wrestling in the world, the Show Time Power Hour! I'm your host, William Regal. I'm in the studio today to bring you a special look at the Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship tournament that took place last week. On June sixth, the stars of NWA: Show Time converged on Greenville, South Carolina's Bon Secour Wellness Arena for the first round. Then, on June ninth, the historic Greensboro Coliseum was the scene. Today's episode will look at clipped highlights from all fifteen matches. Afterward, we'll hear from our new champions. Let's take you now to the first match-up, involving 'Killer Elite Squad' and 'The Broken Universe.'"
Commentary for the matches is suspended for the sake of brevity.
Match One ~ 3 "Killer Elite Squad" (Davey Boy Smith, Jr. & Lance Hoyt) vs. 14 "The Broken Universe" ("Broken Soldier" Gunner & "Broken Savior" Jon Skyler with Queen Reby and "Broken Bomb" Jason Justice)
This was a competitive first match. However, "KES" has so much more time as a team and it showed in the end. They slammed Skyler with the "Killer Bomb" for the win.
Winners = "Killer Elite Squad" by pinfall in 7:48
Match Two ~ 4 "The New Face of Fear" (Killian Dain & Alexander Wolfe with "Eater of Worlds" Bray Wyatt & "Spirit of Abigail" Maria Kanellis) vs. 13 "House of Truth" (Jay Lethal & Donovan Dijak with Truth Martini & "Hoopla Hotties" {Shotzi Blakkhartt, Zahra, and Dana Adiva})
Dain and Wolfe overwhelmed another inexperienced team, manhandling "HoT" while Wyatt and Kanellis ran interference.
Winners = "The New Face of Fear" by pinfall in 6:33
Match Three ~ 5 "Sons of Steel" (Boomer Payne & Brice Anthony) with Jim Cornette vs. 12 "Catch Point" ("No Fly" Drew Gulak & "Hot Sauce" Tracy Williams)
This was the most evenly fought match of the first round. Both teams were on their games and they attempted to one-up each other, as the two pairs do have history. Ultimately, Boomer and Brice moved on after "Steel Curtain."
Winners = "Sons of Steel" by pinfall in 9:19
Match Four ~ 6 "The Insurgence" (Kevin Steen & Claudio Castagnoli) with Jim Cornette vs. 11 "British Strong Style" (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) with Pete Dunne
Jim Cornette sought to get his second team to night two in Greensboro, but it was not to be. Cornette used every trick in his arsenal to secure victory for his charges, but they thwarted every attempt. It was interference that changed the course of the match. Cornette was being admonished by the referee, whose back was to the action. Dunne hopped onto the ring apron and nailed a "Step-up Inziguiri" on Claudio, which stumbled him right into Bate's "Tyler Driver '97."
Winners = "British Strong Style" by pinfall in 8:44
Match Five ~ 7 "All-Americans" ("Gold Standard" Shelton Benjamin & Chad Gable with "Olympic Hero" Kurt Angle") vs. 10 Bully Ray & D-Von Dudley
This was an old school match that harkened back to the eighties. Gable took several minutes of punishment before tagging in Benjamin, who cleaned house. Still, the Dudleys had the advantage and went for "3-D," only to have Benjamin break it up. Gable then snuck in a "Small Package" against D-Von for the surprise pin.
Winners = "All-Americans" by pinfall in 9:02
Match Six ~ 8 "Worldwide Underground" ("Darewolf" PJ Black & Jack Evans with Taya) vs. 9 "The New Church" ("Priest of Punishment" Mikael Judas & Mordecai the Zealot with Priestess Skyler Moon and The Sinister Minister)
The acrobatic style of Evans and Black kept the big men off balance. After missing a dive into the corner, Mordecai fell victim to a "630 Splash" by Evans.
Winners = "Worldwide Underground" by pinfall in 7:20
Match Seven ~ 2 "War Machine" ("WarBeard" Hanson & Raymond "Death" Rowe) vs. 15 "Absolution" ("Golden Girl" Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville)
Hanson and Rowe were reluctant to wrestle against female competitors, until Sonya Deville spat in their faces. She ate a "Lariat" for her troubles. They then scooped her up and hit "Fallout" immediately as Mandy Rose looked on from the corner.
Winners = "War Machine" by pinfall in :42
Match Eight ~ 1 Jey & Jimmy Uso with "The Bad Guy" Scott Hall vs. 16 "Crowe's Nest" (Solomon Crowe & "The Man Gravity Forgot" Adrian Neville with Hangman Page)
This match was more even than a 1-16 should be, but the higher seed prevailed nonetheless. The Usos hit their patented tandem offense en route to a win.
Winners = The Usos by pinfall in 6:58
Match Nine ~ 3 "Killer Elite Squad" vs. 11 "British Strong Style"
This match was not without controversy, as "Euro Trash" cost Seven & Bate the win by pulling Hoyt off the apron in blatant view of the referee.
Winners = "Killer Elite Squad" by disqualification in 5:29
Match Ten ~ "The New Face of Fear" vs. 5 "Sons of Steel"
Cornette's infamous tennis racket made a showing here, as he blasted Wolfe in the back. That led to a "Double Superkick" and "Steel Curtain."
Winners = "Sons of Steel" by pinfall in 9:31
Match Eleven ~ 2 "War Machine" vs. 7 "All-Americans"
As athletic as Benjamin and Gable are, they could not stop the bull rush of Hanson and Rowe, who steamrolled on to the next round.
Winners = "War Machine" by pinfall in 7:22
Match Twelve ~ 1 Jey & Jimmy Uso vs. 8 "Worldwide Underground"
This was the most entertaining match-up of the quarters. Greensboro was ooing and ahing with every sequence. he end came when Black attempted a dive, only to eat a "Double Superkick" mid-air.
Winners = The Usos by pinfall in 9:44
Match Thirteen ~ 2 "War Machine" vs. 3 "Killer Elite Squad"
This was the extension of a feud that has raged on for months. It was by far the most brutal of any tournament match. The battle went inside and outside the ring. The referee barely maintained control. It looked like both teams might get disqualified. But, only one ended up getting tossed. Smith got caught using a steel chair against Rowe.
Winners = "War Machine" by disqualification in 9:26
Match Fourteen ~ 1 Jimmy & Jey Uso vs. 4 "Sons of Steel"
From a technical standpoint, this was the match of the night. Both teams looked fantastic. Ultimately, it was a simple mistimed double-team that cost "SoS," which had the advantage for most of the match.
Winners = The Usos by pinfall in 9:51
After a brief intermission, it was onto the finals.
Match Fifteen ~ NWA: Show Time Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Championship ~ 1 Jey & Jimmy Uso vs. 2 "War Machine"
This match carried a thirty-minute time limit. They needed almost all of it. Both teams were exhausted by the end, but they kept on pushing. Jimmy Uso missed a "Superfly Leap." Hanson and Rowe countered with "Fallout" to take the titles.
Winners and NEW NWA: Show Time Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions = "War Machine" by pinfall in 28:19
After the title belt presentation, "War Machine" was interviewed in ring by Cathy Kelley. Rowe held his title belt high and declared "The era of war is upon us!" Hanson reiterated, "And, everyone else is about to be caught in the fallout!"
Regal: "Well fans, there you have it. What a fantastic two-day tournament. I'm so glad we could bring you all the highlights. Please join us again next Tuesday for more of the Show Time Power Hour on TBS. I'm William Regal, saying ta ta for now!"
