This just came to DVD/Blu-Ray so if you haven't seen it yet & want to avoid spoilers then back out now. If you've seen it or just don't care then stick around
Still here? I'm going to tear this fucking movie a new asshole!
To say that Rian Johnson dropped the ball would be an understatement. Abrams had set up storylines in the Force Awakens like Kylo Ren undergoing Darkside Training (which had never been shown on screen before) Luke was waiting for Rey and would train her etc. Johnson said fuck that because none of this happens. Snoke chewed out Kylo like a bitch for losing to Rey.
Snoke was so powerful that he's established a psychic link between Kylo & Ren, yet he doesn't sense Kylo turning Rey's lightsaber with the force right by his throne then turns it on bisecting Snoke like a little bitch
Then there's the stuff with Luke. Ugh where to begin. So the last one ended with Rey presenting Luke his & Anakin's lightsaber that Luke hasn't seen his the fight with Vader in Cloud City, so it's a touching and meaningful moment for him. Right? Nope. He smirks and chucks it over his shoulder into the ocean as Luke has become just, well for lack of a better term, a bitter asshole. He said he came to the island to die after failing Ben Solo (More on THAT in a bit as I've got a lot to say regarding that bs, that will be last) He says it's time for the Jedi to end as they're directly to blame for Darth Sidious rise to power and the formation of The Empire
Luke never leaves the island he uses a force projection to come to the rebels aid, he dies from overextension? (I guess)
The worst offender by far though is Kylo Ren's backstory. The story between Luke & Ben isn't just out of character, but goes against everything Luke has ever been as a character: So during the training Snoke begins to corrupt Ben, Luke can sense the darkness in Ben, one night while Ben is sleeping Luke draws his lightsaber and for a split moment considers murdering his nephew, Ben sees it and that was the day Ben Solo died & Kylo Ren was born. Ren destroys the temple and takes Luke's other students to form The Knights of Ren.
Did Johnson never watch Return of the Jedi? Everyone told Luke to kill Vader, but he wouldn't as there was a sliver of goodness inside and he was able to redeem Anakin, he damn sure wouldn't try to kill his nephew in cold blood who hadn't even fallen to the darkside yet.
Now the quote from Mark Hamil last March makes perfect sense. He had wnet to Rian Johnson and said: "I fundamentally disagree with every choice you made for this character"
But the vile hate didn't stop there
