Barbie Blank acted as the hostess for the event and welcomed everyone to the BB&T Center in Sunrise, FL. Luckily, Hurricane Matthew was already out of the area, so the weather was pleasant, all things considered. Blank gave way to ringside reporter Jennifer Hale, working her first NWA: Show Time event. Hale hyped the tournament and interviewed the three ringside judges (Jim Ross, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, and Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat), who would declare winners in any match that went to a time limit draw. Hale reiterated the ground rules: the 1st and 2nd rounds would consist of ten-minute time limits, while the semi-finals would be allotted fifteen minutes and the finals thirty minutes. Hale then threw it over to ring announcer Scarlett Bordeaux, officially getting the tournament underway.
Match One ~ 8 Xavier Woods with Truth Martini and the "Hoopla Hotties"--Shotzi Blakkhartt, Zahra, & Dana Adiva vs. 9 BUSHI with Tetsuya Naito
You could tell from the opening contest that each wrestler had a true sense of urgency in finishing quickly, ahead of the ten-minute time limit. No one wanted their fate to be left up to the three judges. Woods and BUSHI set a furious pace. Both men had outside seconds, all of whom provided distractions during the match. It happened to be the beautiful "Hoopla Hotties" who caused the definitive delay. Shotzi Blakkhartt jumped onto to the ring apron and provided just enough of a diversion to allow Xavier to hit "Lost in the Woods" for the pin on BUSHI.
Winner = Xavier Woods by pinfall in 8:19
Match Two ~ 2 Lio Rush vs. 15 Colton Toombs
This was Toombs first high-profile event since graduating the "Show Time Dojo." He was impressive and showed his father's ("Rowdy" Roddy Piper) fire inside the ring. Rush, on loan from NWA: Stars & Stripes, is internationally known and revered, though only in his second full year in the sport. His athleticism is off the charts and his passion belies his lack of size. Ultimately, Rush ended the match fairly quickly with "Rush Hour."
Winner = Lio rush by pinfall in 4:27
Match Three ~ 4 Dean Ambrose vs. 13 "Born Winner" Mike Madden with Truth Martini and the "Hoopla Hotties"--Shotzi Blakkhartt, Zahra, & Dana Adiva
Ambrose came out to a mixed reaction, which has been the case since his disqualification led to "The Bullet Club" being allowed to continue in NWA: Show Time. Ambrose has become more jaded and hardened over the last couple of weeks. He is even more unstable lately, perhaps from the heat that has been put on him by the fans and the other NWA: Show Time wrestlers. he took the fight right to Madden, who is a very talented wrestler in his own right, but was overwhelmed by Ambrose's aggression. Dean has really been taking out his frustrations with his opponents lately. Madden went for a "Flatliner," but it was reversed into "Dirty Deeds" for the win.
Winner = Dean Ambrose by pinfall in 5:31
Match Four ~ 7 Seiya Sanada with Tetsuya Naito vs. 10 Matt Taven with Taylor Gallagher
This was a fantastic back-and-forth match. It went to the ten-minute time limit, which brought the ringside judges into play for the first time. Jim Ross scored it 10-9 for Sanada. Steve Austin scored it 10-9 for Taven. Rick Steamboat scored it 10-9 for Sanada, giving him the nod in a close and controversial decision.
Winner = Seiya Sanada by judges decision in 10:00
Match Five ~ 5 Adrian Neville with Black Widow vs. 12 Xavier
Widow has taken up with "The Outsiders," as she was ousted from "The Bullet Club" when the female contingent was dissolved. This was her first official appearance with the group in a wrestling capacity, and it did not go well. The referee was knocked down and Widow attempted to assist Neville. Xavier (NWA: DWF) ducked the blow and Widow nailed Neville, making him an easy target for "Kiss Your X Goodbye." This was the first major upset of the tournament.
Winner = Xavier by pinfall in 9:10
Match Six ~ 3 Tetsuya Naito with "King of Darkness" EVIL vs. 14 Richie Steamboat
Steamboat was out to impress the crowd and his father during this match. Rick Steamboat could have been seen as an impartial judge at ringside, if it were anyone other than Rick Steamboat, one of the most fair and honorable wrestlers of all time. Richie showed flashes of his father's repertoire against Naito, one of the finest cruiserweights in the world. Steamboat actually wrestled an inspired match and had Naito on the ropes. He went to the top to execute his father's signature "Flying Body Press," but EVIL provided a distraction and Steamboat leapt on him instead. The fans ate that move up, but it cost Steamboat. Naito nailed him with "Destino" as he re-entered the ring.
Winner = Tetsuya Naito by pinfall in 8:44
Naito and EVIL began to lay the boots to Richie after the bell. Rick Steamboat grabbed his chair and flung it into the ring, chasing off Naito and EVIL. The fans howled for this action, as Steamboat still looked to be in great shape and could probably go against his younger counterparts.
Match Seven ~ 6 Paul London vs. 11 "Southern Savior" Jon Skyler with Truth Martini and the "Hoopla Hotties"--Shotzi Blakkhartt, Zahra, & Dana Adiva
Skyler quickly is becoming one of the top young talents in the sport. London (NWA: DWF) had veteran wiles on his side, however, and they prevailed tonight. Skyler mistimed a "Superfly Leap" and London moved out of the way. He landed "Waffle Face," taking Skyler out in a thrilling match that new went the distance.
Winner = Paul London by pinfall in 9:48
Match Eight ~ 1 Will Ospreay vs. 16 Oje Hart
Oje is a recent graduate of the "Show Time Dojo," along with his sister Athena. Oje was a last-minute addition to the tournament, as another signed talent fell through. He performed admirably, but Ospreay (NWA: HAWK) might be the best junior heavyweight in the world at the moment. He outclassed his much less experienced foe, who did show some brilliant moments, much in the vein of his late father Owen Hart. Ospreay finished the match with his "630 Senton Splash."
Winner = Will Ospreay by pinfall in 4:23
After a brief intermission, the quarterfinal round commenced.
Match Nine ~ 2 Lio Rush vs. 7 Seiya Sanada with Tetsuya Naito
This may have been the match of the round. Both men pulled out all the stops. Naito attempted to interfere at the end, but was stopped by Rick Steamboat, who pulled him down from the ring apron, still upset about the way his son was treated against Naito earlier in the tournament. Naito berated Steamboat outside. Sanada began yelling at Steamboat from inside the ring, which gave Rush time to hit the ropes for a "Missile Dropkick" that flattened Sanada and set him up for "Dragon's Call."
Winner = Lio Rush by pinfall in 9:06
Match Ten ~ 4 Dean Ambrose vs. 12 Xavier
The tourney Cinderella, Xavier, made it look as if the glass slipper would be placed on his foot at the end of the night. he performed quite well against Ambrose. Dean continued to be ultra-aggressive, though, and stayed on the offensive for quite a while. He became more and more frustrated at his attempts to put Xavier down. Xavier continued to kick out and mount an offensive of his own. The ten-minute limit elapsed with no winner, so we went to the judges scorecards. Ross scored it 10-9 for Xavier. Austin scored it 10-9 for Ambrose. Steamboat scored it 10-9 for Ambrose to give him a controversial split decision.
Winner = Dean Ambrose by judges decision in 10:00
Match Eleven ~ 3 Tetsuya Naito with "King of Darkness" EVIL vs. 6 Paul London
Naito was the fresher and younger of the two. London used his quickness advantage throughout the match, but Naito pressed the issue and had the bulk of the offense. He continued to taunt Rick Steamboat throughout the match. EVIL got in on the action as well. EVIL got a little too close and personal with Steamboat and got chopped down for his trouble. Naito went outside to confront Steamboat, but was hit with a "Plancha" from London. The referee counted the two, with London sliding in at nine and Naito tripping on his way in.
Winner = Paul London by countout in 9:14
Naito was livid as Steamboat laughed at him. Naito and EVIL sulked back to the locker room as London celebrated the upset.
Match Twelve ~ 1 Will Ospreay vs. 8 Xavier Woods with Truth Martini and the "Hoopla Hotties"--Shotzi Blakkhartt, Zahra, & Dana Adiva
Ospreay seems to be in a world of his own right now. He outworked and outclassed Woods, Truth Martini's last hope in the tournament. Unfortunately, the PhD ran into a buzzsaw. Ospreay won with the "Essex Destroyer."
Winner = Will Ospreay by pinfall in 7:32
Match Thirteen ~ 2 Lio Rush vs. 6 Paul London
These two went at it brilliantly. London threw everything but the kitchen sink at Rush, who kept on coming. London's strength began to sap from him, as the third match of the night for these two took its toll. Paul began to lose a step, which allowed Rush to capitalize. He hit a "Standing Enziguiri," which he keenly transitioned into a "Kokina Clutch." London had nowhere to go and eventually had to tap out.
Winner = Lio Rush by submission in 12:33
The two received a standing ovation after the match. they shared a respectful embrace and London raised Rush's hand.
Match Fourteen ~ 1 Will Ospreay vs. 4 Dean Ambrose
Once again, Ospreay showed why he was seeded number one. He unleashed his offensive arsenal, which really confused Ambrose in the early going. Dean did gain a foothold in the match after dodging a "Suicide Dive," which sent Will crashing into the barricade. Ospreay eventually ounted a comeback, then the match ended abruptly amid controversy. The two were tangled with one another in the corner. The referee wedged himself between the two. While he was attempting the separation, Ambrose knelt down and landed a blatant and obvious low blow. The referee's face was covered and he did not see it. Ospreay writhed in pain. Ambrose took the opportunity to plant him with "Dirty Deeds" for the win.
Winner = Dean Ambrose by pinfall in 13:01
After a ten-minute intermission, the finals were up next.
Match Fifteen ~ NWA: Show Time Cruiserweight Championship ~ 2 Lio Rush vs. 4 Dean Ambrose
Rush was at his best and still seemed to be in fifth gear. Ambrose clearly was struggling. Rush had the match well in hand, until the referee got knocked down. Da Cobra, Rush's nemesis in NWA: Stars & Stripes, came to the ring and blasted Rush with a steel chair. Ambrose, who watched the entire scenario play out, roused the referee, and jumped on top of Rush as the referee made the groggy count.
Winner and NEW NWA: Show Time Cruiserweight Champion = Dean Ambrose by pinfall in 18:16
The crowd booed vociferously as Ambrose had the championship belt strapped around his waist. He celebrated to the back and Rush recovered from the chair shot.
