Enfield Patch posted this story:
An Enfield-based independent professional wrestling organization is soldiering on despite recently being forced to change its name.
In August, a promotion named Us vs. Them (UvT) debuted with some exhibition matchups at the Mount Carmel Italian Festival. In late August, the troupe had its premier full card outdoors, again on the Italian Society grounds.
Another outdoor show was held in mid-October, and the first indoor event, “NotAFingah!,” was slated for Dec. 12 at WhirlyBall, an entertainment center at 481 Enfield Street.
Just prior to that card, UvT was forced to change its moniker, after receiving a cease-and-desist order from a mail-order clothing company in California called Us vs. Them.
“I didn’t think it was a big deal, but if it had to happen, I’m glad it did after only just a few shows,” promotion owner Jeremy Leary said.
Leary is a big fan of punk-rock band The Ramones, so he opted to switch the company name to Blitzkrieg Pro.
A nine-year veteran of the New England independent circuit, Leary is thrilled to be heading up his own organization.
“Starting my own promotion is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time,” he said. “I’ve always wanted to wrestle - in elementary school when they asked what we wanted to be when we grow up, I always said I wanted to be a wrestler. When I was 20, I started training at Kevin Landry’s Pro Wrestling Combine in Chicopee, and I had my first match just after I turned 21.”
Blitzkrieg Pro features some of the finest young talent in the Northeast, plus augments each show with a well-known alumnus or two from large promotions such as WWE, TNA and Ring of Honor.
Past guests have included TNA champion Ethan Carter III, Matt Striker, CJ Parker, Colt Cabana, Jinder Mahal and Leva “Blue Pants” Bates.
The next scheduled event on Jan. 9 at WhirlyBall will continue to blend talented young performers with established veterans. Former WWE standouts Scotty 2 Hotty and Brian Myers (FKA Curt Hawkins) will be appearing, along with New Japan and Ring of Honor star Trent Baretta and technical sensation Silver Ant.
Tickets for the show are $20 ringside and $15 general admission. As a bonus, fans who buy four general admission tickets will receive a fifth free.
Bell time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
