*OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE FROM THE NWA BOARD OF GOVERNORS*
The NWA's final offering of 2015, which aired live on TBS, Clash of the Champions "Season's Beatings," was a critical success. Early reports of viewership are in the 7.0 range. This tremendous card of action saw several NWA World and North American Championships defended, as well as several territory-specific bouts.
Eight big matches took place inside Los Angeles, California's Staples Center. The official results are as follows:
Match One ~ Number One Contender to the NWA: DFW Zero1 Championship ~ Homicide vs. Low-Ki vs. B-Boy vs. "Fast" Eddie Vegas vs. John Walters vs. Xavier vs. Amazing Red vs. Kid Kash vs. Petey Williams vs. Seiya Sanada vs. Jerelle Clark vs. TJ Perkins vs. Paul London vs. Michael Shane vs. EZ Money vs. Sonay Dutt vs. Juventud Guerrera vs. Jimmy Rave
(match play-by-play by flame3169118 )
Mac: "So, what we have here is a very important match, the winner will get the first shot at the Zero1 Champion."
Doc: "While everyone else will go into a 'Ladder' match at 'Ascendance' to determine the first Zero1 Champion."
Mac: "Basically, this thing is going to get very crazy, as everyone will be in the ring at the same time. First pin or submission wins."
Doc: "Due to the wild nature we're likely to see here, we have not 1, but 3 refs assigned: Senior Official 'Big' Ben Bash, Jumping Jim, and Deep Duck."
Ki & Xavier go right after each other as there's no love lost between these two. Ki with "Kawada Kicks" and looking for the "Ki Crusher" early on. Red with a "Springboard Tornado Kick." Ki & Red trade & dodge strikes. Sanada with the "Meteor of Pegasus" on Red, but Rave breaks it up. "Ghana-Ria" to Seiya, but London breaks up the pin with "London Calling." Before there's even a one count though, Shane with the "Picture Perfect Elbow" on Paul. Instead of going for the cover, Shane takes the time to mock London, as Michael is simply an a--hole, and pays for it as Walters lays him out with a "Rolling Lungblower." Red up top with the "Infra-Red," then follows with the "Red Star Press," but Clark with the "630." Shane back up with "Sweet Shane Music." Xavier with the "X-Breaker" on Shane. Kash looking for a "Frog Splash," but Vegas is up top & hits the "Cash Out." Money with the "EZ Driver" followed by "Cha Ching." TJ grabs Money and hits the "Detonation Kick." B-Boy with the "Delikado," but Petey is waiting and hits "The Canadian Destroyer." Rave goes for what looks like a "Piledriver," but instead hits "The Rave Clash." Juvi breaks it up and nails a "Juvi Driver." Money grabs Guerrera for "Money in the Bank." EZ's old rival Kash is waiting and hits "The Money Maker,." Sonjay with the "Calcutta Cutter" and goes for "The Moonstomp," but Ki cuts his legs out from him. "Tree of Woe Ghetto Stomp" by Ki. Sanada with "The Comet Kick," but Ki ducks. Homicide back in and Ki goes up top. Oh no! "Cop Killah/Ghetto Stomp" combo. Sanada is lifeless. Xavier back in and dumps Ki outside. "Kiss Your Ex Goodbye" on Homicide, then up top. "450 Degrees of Fear" on a prone Sanada. No one else is around and Xavier gets the pin.
Winner = Xavier by pinfall in 19:02
Match Two ~ If Hojo wins, "Joshi Mafia" Must Disband Forever ("Joshi Mafia" barred from ringside) ~ Io Shirai vs. Kairi Hojo
This was a phenomenal match and worthy of a main event anywhere in the world. Shirai immediately established herself as the heel, slapping Hojo in the face and calling her an ‘idiot.’ After an early scrap with Io’s "German Suplex," Hojo rolled underneath the ring before Shirai could follow up with a "Topé Suicida." She got the best of Io when she surfaced and the two brawled on the outside. There was a particularly nasty spot when Shirai evaded a "Running Elbow," sending Hojo careening into the retaining wall at full speed after an all out sprint to get there. Shirai took Hojo into the crowd and hit a "Moonsault" from the stands in the biggest spot of the match. She dragged Hojo back to the ring by her arm and continued to work it over. Kairi hit an absolutely vicious diving "Double Stomp" onto Io’s face and a nasty "Alabama Slam," before finally finishing Shirai off with two "Flying Elbow Drops" (one to the back and one to the front). On the second elbow, Hojo's foot clipped Senior Referee Carly Rae in the jaw, knocking her senseless. Hojo went for the cover. For what seemed like minutes (actually, ten seconds), she laid on Shirai waiting for the referee to count. The crowd was counting in unison, hoping referee Rae would awaken. Eventually, Kairi attempted to revive referee Rae. As she did, Io's sister Mio ran to the ring. As Mio was about to enter and undoubtedly attack Hojo, NWA: Show Time Women's Champion Manami Toyota ran to the ring and grabbed her by the seat of the pants. Mio back off and Toyota entered the ring. Hojo seemed to be explaining things to Toyota, when Manami scooped her up and hit the "Japanese Queen Bee Bomb," leveling Hojo and leaving the crowd gasping. She dragged a prone Io over and laid her across Hojo's now lifeless body. As Toyota left the ring, she slapped referee Rae, which roused her enough to make the pin count.
Winner = Io Shirai by pinfall in 18:46
"Joshi Mafia" ran to ringside and embraced Manami Toyota. Toyota had a sinister grin on her face. Awesome Kong grabbed a microphone.
Awesome Kong: "We told you that 'Joshi Mafia' was going nowhere! We meant it! We also promised that you would meet the 'Joshi Mafia' Boss tonight. Well, ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce the lady in charge of 'Joshi Mafia,' Miss Manami Toyota!"
"Joshi Mafia" celebrated down the aisle as several NWA: Show Time ladies division wrestlers checked on Kairi, who was seething on the mat.
Match Three ~ NWA North American Heavyweight/NWA: HAWK High King Championships ~ "Rainmaker" Kazuchika Okada vs. Ray "Death" Rowe vs. Jacko Lantern vs. Jay Briscoe
(match play-by-play by @theindyjunkie )
Briscoe immediately rushes Okada and Lantern runs at Rowe. Rowe levels Lantern with a "Clothesline" and Briscoe smashes Okada in a corner and starts to throw punches at him. Rowe pulls Lantern to his feet and tosses him to the ropes. Rowe starts to chop him viciously, then grabs him and tosses him over the top rope. By this time, Okada is on the mat with Briscoe kicking him. Rowe walks over, turns Briscoe around, and forces him into the corner while choking him. Rowe also presses his foot on Okada’s gut. The ref starts to count and Rowe breaks the choke. Briscoe immediately drives his shoulder into Rowe’s gut then, quickly drops an elbow on Okada and shoulders Rowe’s gut again. Briscoe then hits a "Sunset Flip" on Rowe, which is quickly broken up with a boot to the face from Lantern. Okada would get to his feet and drop Lantern with a "Simply Awesome Dropkick." The match went back and forth like this, with all four men landing various moves and breaking up various pins. Briscoe eventually had Okada on the floor and leveled him with a "Jay Driller!" Okada was effectively eliminated from the match. Lantern had the same kind of fate after taking a "Death Rowe," then being bombed onto the apron. Jay and Rowe would meet in the ring and quickly start to exchange punches. Rowe would force Briscoe into a corner and keep on a vicious strike attack. When Briscoe would start to fall, Rowe would pull him back up and keep going. Rowe eventually picked Briscoe up and drove him to the mat with a "Overhead Belly-to-belly Suplex." Rowe would start to "Suplex" Briscoe in various ways. After many "Suplex" variations, Rowe tried for the pin. 1…2…kickout! Rowe then pulled Briscoe up and whipped him to the ropes. Jay went over the top, thanks to a "low bridge" from Lantern. Lantern started to attack Briscoe as Okada slid into the ring. Okada tried to connect with the "Rainmaker" on Rowe. Rowe ducked, then dropped Oakada with "Death Rowe!" Rowe covers 1…2…Lantern tries to slide in….3!
Winner and Still NWA North American Heavyweight Champion and the NEW NWA: HAWK High King Champion = Ray Rowe by pinfall in 16:53
Match Four ~ NWA North American Cruiserweight Championship ~ Xavier Woods with Truth Martini and the "Hoopla Hotties" (Shotzi Blakkhartt & Barbi Hayden) vs. Andrew Everett
This was a nice back-and-forth contest. Everett has emerged as a top contender for the championship. Woods has been a defending champion, just completing a 13-day North American tour with this being the last stop. He was up to the task, though Everett had him on the ropes. Woods hit the "Monte Fisto" for a two-count. Everett regained the advantage and went up top. He attempted a "450 Splash," but Woods got his knees up at the last second. Xavier turned this into a "Cradle" pinfall, as he held onto Everett's trunks outside the referee's view.
Winner and STILL NWA North American Cruiserweight Champion = Xavier Woods by pinfall in 14:35
Match Five ~ NWA World Women's Championship ~ Gail Kim vs. Rabbit Miu
Kim has been in a zone since winning the championship. Miu has come into her own, recently becoming the "Queen" of NWA: HAWK. She gave Kim all she could handle, but, ultimately, Gail's vast experience edge was enough to overcome the young upstart. Miu went for a "Missile Dropkick" from the top rope that Gail avoided. When Miu got off the mat, she was met with "Eat DeFeet" for the pin.
Winner and STILL NWA World Women's Champion = Gail Kim by pinfall in 16:41
Match Six ~ NWA World Cruiserweight Championship ~ 3-Way Dance ~ ACH vs. Bryan Danielson vs. Pentagon, Jr.
This match was a surprisingly hard-hitting affair. Danielson and Pentagon are submission specialists, but ACH proved he is a worthy champion. Danielson had ACH in the "Yes! Lock" for a near tapout, but it was broken up by Pentagon. ACH shocked the crowd by locking in a "Heel Hook" on Danielson. Bryan was brawling with Pentagon on the floor at one point,. ACH took that opportunity to hit a gravity-defying "Air Jordan," taking out both men. All three men traded blows in center ring for a tantalizing spot. Danielson knocked ACH down, then transitioned into the "Cattle Mutilation" on Pentagon. As Pentagon writhed in pain (and nearly submitted), ACH quickly scaled the ropes and nailed the "Best 450 Ever" on both men. He covered Pentagon for the pinfall.
Winner and STILL NWA World Cruiserweight Champion = ACH by pinfall in 18:22
Match Seven ~ NWA World Tag Team Championship ~ AJ Styles & Alberto El Patron vs. "The Mighty Don't Kneel" (Mikey Nicholls & Shane Haste)
This was one of the best tag team matches in recent memory. Both teams are from NWA: Wild West, so they are familiar with one another. This, however, was "TMDK's" first World Tag Title opportunity. They made the most of it. "TMDK" has been on a roll, winning the "Wild West Cup" at "Starrcade 2K15." Styles and Patron have defended the championship since the summer. In the end, it was a bit of ingenuity that won it. Styles went for his trademark "Styles Clash," but it was thwarted and turned into the "Tank Buster." El Patron was dumped to the outside while Nicholls made the cover.
Winners and NEW NWA World Tag Team Champions = "The Mighty Don't Kneel" by pinfall in 22:00
Match Eight ~ NWA World Heavyweight Championship ~ Special Referee "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (approved by the NWA Board of Governors) ~ "The Beast" Brock Lesnar with Maria Kanellis vs. CM Punk
The appointing of Special Referee Ric Flair was a flabbergasting surprise to everyone in attendance, as the announcement was held off until the wrestlers came to the ring. Punk knew the "fix" was in. Flair went into business with Jordan Richards, who handles Lesnar and is the Chairman of the NWA Board of Governors. Flair referee license and paperwork were current, so Richards had done everything "by the book," legally speaking. Once the match started, it was clear that Punk had no chance of winning. Lesnar can beat any man alive on his own. When you give him a stacked deck, you essentially ensure victory. Flair was liberal with the enforcement of rules, allowing Lesnar free reign to beat Punk from pillar to post. You could tell that "Naitch" relished every second of it. Since "Starrcade," Punk has become somewhat if a sympathetic character in the fans' eyes. They actually cheered him on in this match. Punk gained the upper hand toward the end. Brock went to "Spear" Punk outside the ring, but CM moved, sending Brock crashing into and through the barricade. Brock was nearly rendered unconscious. Punk seized the opportunity. He pulled Lesnar to his feet and delivered a "Go to Sleep" outside the ring. He muscled Brock inside the ring and dropped him with a second "GTS." Flair had no choice but to count. He did, however, slow his cadence to a crawl, allowing Brock to kick out at the 2.75 count. Punk was livid and berated Flair. Brock was able to regain his senses and snuck up behind Punk. he scooped him up for the "F-5." Punk blocked it and scooped Lesnar up for a third "GTS." As he came down, Brock blocked the knee and scooped Punk up again, this time connecting with the "F-5" for the victory.
Winner and STILL NWA World Heavyweight Champion = Brock Lesnar by pinfall in 27:09
Punk stomped Flair as Lesnar and company stood triumphant in the ring to close the broadcast.
