The episode began with William Regal and Renee Young sitting in the production control room.
William Regal: "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the finest sixty minutes in pro wrestling, the Show Time Power Hour! I'm your host, William Regal. With me, as always, is the lovely Renee Young. Renee, we have a special episode lined up today."
Renee Young: "Yes we do, William. As promised, we will air the first two rounds of the tournament to decide which team will challenge for the NWA World Tag Team Championship at Clash of the Champions "Halloween Havoc" on October 24."
Regal: "That's. Now, obviously it would be impossible to broadcast twelve full matches in one hour. So, we will air clipped highights of each match from rounds one and two of the tournament. These matches took place yesterday at our normal taping venue, the PNC Music Pavilion. This is a sixteen-team, single elimination tournament in random draw format, which means there are no seeds. Let's remind everyone of the participating teams."
Young: "We have 'The Kingdom'--Michael Bennett & Matt Taven, 'Killer Elite Squad'--Davey Boy Smith, Jr. & Lance Hoyt, 'Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team'--Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas, 'The Addiction'--Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian, 'War Machine'--Hansen & 'Godzilla' Jax Dane, 'C & C Wrestle Factory'--Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander with Veda Scott, 'Lethal Consequences'--Jay Lethal & Xavier Woods with Truth Martini, 'TenCozy'--Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima, 'Meiyu Tag'--Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata, 'Sons of Steel'--Boomer Payne & Brice Anthony, 'Bloodbound Warriors'--Grey Wolf & Red Scorpion, Dean Ambrose & Claudio Castagnoli, 'Super Luchas'--Myzteziz & Volador, Jr., 'Life of the Party'--Dalton Castle & Colt Cabana, Tetsuya Naito & Ryusuke Taguchi, and one mystery team."
Regal: "So, without further adieu, let's get to the tournament recap!"
For the sake of space, tournament commentary will not be posted between matches.
Match One ~ "Life of the Party"--Dalton Castle & Colt Cabana vs. "Super Luchas"--Myzteziz & Volador, Jr.
This was a good test for "Super Luchas," who have apparently gotten back on the same page after the fiasco at Clash of the Champions "Fall Brawl" had threatened to splinter their group. "LotP" had a strong outing and are beginning to come together as a team. They still have their awkward moments, which usually spells doom, as was the case with this match. Too much celebrating of a particularly good sequence caused Cabana to lose focus and fall victim to "La Mistica" for the submission.
Winners = "Super Luchas" by submission in 6:39
Match Two ~ "Sons of Steel"--Boomer Payne & Brice Anthony vs. 'TenCozy'--Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima
The inaugural NWA: Show Time Tag Team Champions were taking on the former NWA World Tag Team Champions in this one. "SoS" has struggled in recent matches since losing the Tag Team Championship, but really regained their footing here. "TenCozy" is a tough "out" for any tandem, so Payne and Anthony had to be on top of their games to win this. They were clicking on all cylinders and seemed to be intent on proving that they are no fluke and are legitimately one of wrestling's best tandems. Tenzan ate "Steel Curtain" for dinner.
Winners = "Sons of Steel" by pinfall in 8:14
Match Three ~ "Bloodbound Warriors"--Grey Wolf & Red Scorpion vs. Tetsuya Naito & Ryusuke Taguchi
The newest team in NWA: Show Time, "Bloodbound Warriors," is a massive and intimidating team. Naito kept them off balance with their speed and quickness. Taguchi used his unorthodox style to puzzle the brutes. In the end, Ryusuke accidentally knocked his partner off the top rope as Naito was attempting the "Stardust Press." Taguchi then fell victim to "Release the Hounds" for the fall.
Winners = "Bloodhound Warriors" by pinfall in 7:01
There was tension between Naito and Taguchi, who shook hands before they left together.
Match Four ~ "Killer Elite Squad"--Davey Boy Smith, Jr. & Lance Hoyt vs. "Lethal Consequences"--Jay Lethal & Xavier Woods with Truth Martini
This was a match of technical precision versus powerhouse wrestling. The skill of each man on his own is the highest of levels. As teams, they excel even further. The match started strong and kept getting better as it went along. Ultimately, Truth Martini was the difference. Normally, his interference helps his team secure victory. On this night, he was caught hitting Hoyt in the head with the Book of Truth, which caused the disqualification.
Winners = "Killer Elite Squad" by disqualification in 9:19
"KES" chased Martini to the back, as "Lethal Consequences" ran hopelessly behind them.
Match Five ~ "Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team"--Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas vs. "The Addiction"--Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian
If you want to see tag team wrestling done right, consult this match as a reference. Two seasoned teams that have won multiple World Tag Team Championships, put it all on the line to secure victory. This was not a typical spotfest. Rather, an old school, "cut the ring in half "standard was set. "The Addiction" kept Haas at bay for much of the match and worked him over. He finally got the tag to Benjamin and business picked up. Shelton was a house of fire and bounded from the mat to the ropes and back. Eventually, Haas hit a "Power Slam" on Kazarian, which enabled Benjamin to land his "Springboard Shooting Star Press" for the win.
Winners = "Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team" by pinfall in 8:46
Match Six ~ Dean Ambrose & Claudio Castagnoli vs. "Meiyu Tag"--Katsuyori Shibata & Hirooki Goto
This was a prize fight. It was a twelve-round, heavyweight clash. Though "War Machine" is the much larger team, "Meiyu Tag" is super stiff, which made for quite the number of kick exchanges. Castangoli is insanely athletic and possesses superhuman strength. He matched wares against Shibata in mid-match and had the fans on their feet. A Missed dive by Goto made him easy fodder for the "Neutralizer," followed by "Dirty Deeds."
Winners = Dean Ambrose & Claudio Castagnoli by pinfall in 7:34
Match Seven ~ "C & C Wrestle Factory"--Caprice Coleman & Cedric Alexander vs. the mystery team
"C & C" made their entrance and waited impatiently for the mystery team to be revealed. Suddenly, the lights went out. "First Thing's First" by Waste Management blared over the PA system to bring out "All Night Xpress!" Rhett Titus and Kenny King bounded down the aisle for the first time in nearly three years as a team. The fans were going crazy. Veda Scott was beside herself, as she has been involved in a personal vendetta against Titus for quite a while. Scott, as one would imagine, got involved in the action on several occasions, slapping, choking, and otherwise berating her arch-nemesis. Scott jumped on the apron and Titus planted a sloppy kiss on her, sending her reeling. The distraction gave "ANX" a glimmer of hope and they took advantage, with the "One Night Stand" on Alexander for the victory.
Winners = "All Night Xpress" by pinfall in 9:22
Veda Scott was livid afterward and continued to cough, gag, and wipe slobber from her face. Titus and King laughed up the ramp and back to the dressing room.
Match Eight ~ "The Kingdom"--Michael Bennett & Matt Taven with Maria Kanellis vs. "War Machine"--Hansen & "Godzilla" Jax Dane
This was the most intriguing of the first round matches, as both of these teams figured to go deep in the tournament. "War Machine" has been a recent challenger to the current NWA: Show Time Tag Team Champions in some tremendous matches throughout the territory. "War Machine" rocked "The Kingdom" early and often, having them on the ropes for the bulk of the contest. "War Machine" hit "Fallout" and had the match won. However, "Bloodbound Warriors'" music hit and they walked out on the entrance ramp and goaded Hansen & Dane to come and get them. "War Machine" took the bait and gave chase. The referee had no choice but to begin his count. He reached ten and "The Kingdom" rejoiced, as they dodged a huge bullet.
Winners = "The Kingdom" by countout in 8:25
"War Machine" returned to the ring, outraged at the result. "Bloodhound Warriors" returned as well and both teams brawled to the back.
Match Nine ~ "Super Luchas"--Myzteziz & Volador, Jr. vs. "Sons of Steel"--Boomer Payne & Brice Anthony
The Lucha style mixed well with the "Steel City" stylings of Payne and Anthony. Both teams had their moments of excellence. Volador took a good bit of punishment during the match, and was much the worse for wear by the end. Myzteziz seemed to be on fire in the closing moments, but Volador inexplicably tagged himself in as Myzteziz was scaling the ropes for a big move. Volador, in his weakened state, fell victim to "Steel Curtain" and was done for.
Winners = "Sons of Steel" by pinfall in 9:31
Myzteziz continued to question Volador on the way back to the dressing room. Volador shrugged Myzteziz off and walked ahead of him.
Match Ten ~ "Killer Elite Squad"--Davey Boy Smith, Jr. & Lance Hoyt vs. "Bloodbound Warriors"--Grey Wolf & Red Scorpion
This match never happened. As "Bloodbound Warriors" made their entrance, they were attacked by "War Machine" and both teams battled through the crowd and into the backstage area. The referee had no other choice, but to declare the "Bloodhound Warriors" had forfeited the match, since they never actually made it into the ring.
Winners = "Killer Elite Squad" by forfeit in 0:00
Match Eleven ~ "Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team"--Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas vs. Claudio Castagnoli & Dean Ambrose
This was easily the match of the night. All four men are technical wizards and it showed. Castagnoli and Haas showcased their grappling skills, while Benjamin and Ambrose took to the skies. There was no safe place, inside or outside the ring. With Ambrose's "loose cannon" lifestyle, his unpredictability makes him almost impossible to game plan for. On minute, he is a high-flyer. The next minute, he is a brawler. The minute after that, he is a skilled wrestler. However, in this match, his recklessness was his undoing. Ambrose missed a "Suicide Dive" attempt and tasted concrete, knocking himself silly and injuring his shoulder. Castangoli was all but by himself for the remainder of the match. When Ambrose did "help," it usually hurt the team. "WGTT" eventually got the win with a "Belly-to-Belly Suplex/Springboard Shooting Star Press" combination on Ambrose.
Winners = "Wrestling's Greatest Tag Team" by pinfall in 9:44
Match Twelve ~ "The Kingdom"--Michael Bennett & Matt Taven with Maria Kanellis vs. "All Night Xpress"--Kenny King & Rhett Titus
This one should have been a classic and had the makings of one, but was marred by controversy. "ANX" seemed to have "The Kingdom's" number. Every time the fans thought they would win, Maria would do something to cause a distraction and keep the match going. Ultimately, her constant meddling paid off. Fed up with her continuous interjections, Referee Charles Robinson threw Maria out of the match and forced her to the back. The fans began singing, "Na, na, na, na. Na, na, na, na. Hey, hey, hey. Goodbye." "ANX" joined the chorus and began waiving as Marai backed up the ramp. Taven took the opportunity to scoop Titus up from behind in a Schoolboy Roll." With a massive handful of tights, Taven kept Titus down for the three as Bennett held off King from the save.
Winners = "The Kingdom" by pinfall in 6:26
"ANX" was incensed and attempted to convince the referee that they had been robbed. The fans littered the ring with debris in disdain.
Regal: "Well folks, there you have it. So, the semi-finals are set for Saturday. Please join us on iPPV for this huge event. Not only will we crown a tournament winner, but we have the two-ring 'War Games' match as our main event. Please don't miss it. Tune in this Thursday on TNT for Show Time Femme Fatales and join us again next Tuesday right her on TBS for another Show Time Power Hour. For Renee Young, I'm William Regal, saying, ta ta for now."
