A WWE release
Disc 1 (Documentary/NWA Matches)
Match 1: "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers vs Pat O'Connor (NWA World Heavyweight Championship)
June 1961 at Chicago's Comiskey Park. They really talk up the significance of this match by mentioning all the promoters that are in attendance. You see the cockiness that would influence Ric Flair as Buddy Rogers struts around the ring. Very different kind of match from what you'd see these days, but interesting from a historical standpoint.
Match 2: Dory Funk Jr. vs Gene Kiniski (NWA World Heavyweight Championship)
The beginning of what would be the 2nd longest uninterrupted reign anybody ever had with the NWA Championship. Kiniski is quite a legendary figure himself, I'll leave that to most of you to discover, but Funk gets the W here with the famous Funk family "Spinning Toe Hold"...Gordon Solie is on the call. Classic old school wrestling.
Match 3: Terry Funk vs Jack Brisco (NWA World Heavyweight Championship)
Terry takes on Brisco in the match that would crown him as Champion and stamp the Funk Bros. in history forever as the only brothers to ever win the NWA World Championship!
Match 4: Harley Race vs Dusty Rhodes (NWA World Heavyweight Championship)
Dusty and Gordon Solie provide commentary, but you can't hear much of it...very muffled. Historical as it's Dusty's first title win.
Match 5: Ric Flair vs Magnum TA (NWA World Heavyweight Championship)
In Magnum TA's short career he accomplished so much. Rising to this level as a star on the level to challenge for the Championship of the world is no small feat. Especially in these days. This one is classic Flair. Chops, Knee drops, he shoves the ref, he gets busted open...the works lol. Great stuff! Flair finally winds up rolling up Magnum and hooking the tights for the win. WHOOOOOOOOOOOOO! One of many times Flair got to hear the words "AND STILL CHAMPION!" WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Match 6: Ric Flair vs Sting (NWA World Heavyweight Championship) - Great American Bash 1990
One of many Flair vs Sting matches. In these days they always tore the house down. The plan was for Sting to take the title from Flair at Wrestle War '90 earlier this year, but he had suffered a serious knee injury that put him out for months, and here about 6 months or so later was the match they were supposed to have then. Ole Anderson is handcuffed to El Gigante to keep him from interfering. Another classic match here as Flair of course targets the recently injured knee of Sting throughout the match, and Sting is giving him hell as always. After a tremendous battle Sting rolls up Flair in a small package when Flair attempts a Figure Four leg lock and Sting is the winner and NEW Champion. Flair of course, would be back.
