Newly crowned champion Seth Rollins makes his entrance, walking a little gingerly but hale and hearty otherwise.
He gets on the mic and says he’s gotta be honest ‘cause he doesn’t know any other way, and last night he didn’t know that he had what it takes to beat Brock Lesnar. The last few weeks have been the toughest stretch of his entire career, and he came to the ring at less than 100% and stared Lesnar right in the eyes. In this ring, Brock is everything he’s touted to be and more.
He pauses a beat and a “Beast Slayer!” chant goes up. He continues, saying that when he ran out of gas, something happened-- the crowd came alive, and in that moment they took him to a place he’s never been in his entire career. To a place that he couldn’t go on his own, to a place that only they can go together! In that moment, he knew he had what it took to slay the Beast!
And he remembered that he’s Seth freakin’ Rollins, and that’s why he’s standing here as Universal Champion.
Enter AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, and Luke Gallows, the OC.
They get in the ring and AJ gets on the mic, telling Seth that believe it or not, the OC would like to be the first to congratulate him. They lead a round of applause and Styles continues, saying that here’s where it gets tricky-- he doesn’t have to worry about Brock Lesnar anymore, but he does have to worry about the man standing in front of him, and he wants a match tonight.
Rollins says he’s always had a ton of respect for AJ... but not anymore. It doesn’t matter how beat up he is, but he’ll teach Styles a lesson in respect-- challenge accepted! AJ offers a hand before realizing Gallows and Anderson must be making Seth nervous and asking them to leave the ring. He extends his hand again, and Rollins shakes it.
AJ tells his pals that Seth is scared and he better be, to which Rollins gives the universal “come and get some then” hand gesture.
Commentary hypes up Andrade “Cien” Almas vs. Rey Mysterio in a 2/3 falls match, a women’s tag title defense, and Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler for later tonight.
Backstage, the Street Profits are doing their usual hype reel/Greek chorus gimmick when Sami Zayn rolls up with some friendly advice.
He says he gets it, they’re new, it’s exciting, and they should enjoy it while it lasts, because the longer you’re here, the more it sucks your soul out. He says Becky Lynch used to be real straight fire but now she feels so manufactured, to which Angelo Dawkins asks if that even goes for, say... Samoa Joe. The camera pans to show Joe standing behind Sami while Zayn starts making fun of him and running him down.
Samoa gets his attention and Sami begs off, but Joe ain’t having it. He says since he’s such a big softy he’ll give Zayn a chance to get it off his chest in that ring right now, and maybe he’ll show that he’s something more than Kevin Owens’ waterboy. Joe punctuates with a shove and storms off
During the break there's a commercial announcing the return of King of the Ring next week
