Ok, so Sting appears out of the blue and now has a title shot at Night of Champions, ironically a show that is a direct play on words of the famous WCW Clash of the Champions, an event that helped make Sting a household name. But what about John Cena? I assumed he would simply get a rematch, and then another rematch at the next event, and the next after in typical Cena fashion. Win or lose, mostly win, Cena feuds usually last 4-6 months/PPVs.
But with Sting taking his shot, what's next? Here's my list of my top choices for Cena, lists yours below :
- Cena vs HHH. Rumors spread he would fight Rollins as SS, but HHH remained on the sidelines. With Cena in a holding pattern for Rollins-Sting to end, a feud with HHH seems safe and logical. Cena could easily move his anger to The Authority and blame them for allowing Stewart to even come to ring side or even take part in the show. Beating HHH would still mean something and would pass the time in between for Cena.
- Cena vs Rollins for US Title. So Rollins is booked for the HW Title, but doesn't the champion usually have a "rematch clause". It would make sense, and WWE has shown a willingness to take a page from ROH who has recently done this, to have Rollins pull double duty and defend the US title against Cena, and the HW title vs Sting. It fits the theme of HHH continuing to stack the odds to see if Rollins will make it or break it, and we would/could/should get a real finish to the Cena-Rollins feud.
- Cena w/ Shield vs Wyatts. WWE is desperately seeking to get Roman Reigns over, and directly aligning himself, at least for a PPV and a few RAWs, with the #1 good guy isn't a bad idea. With the recent addition to the Wyatt's, the Shield V.2. is down 3 men to 2. Rumors for SS said Sting would team with them, but with Sting getting the title shot, it would make sense to have super Cena squash or put over the new big man. This route accomplishes a ton of things and gets some prime time light shined down on some deserving mid-card guys like Wyatt and Harper specifically. This could be a short and sweet feud for Cena with a win (most likely scenario) and could quickly move him back into title contention after this PPV or 1 more.
