Rhyno & Heath Slater vs The Hype Bros: Rhyno pulls Slater away from the Broski Boot then breaks Ryder in half with a Gore for the win

After the match, Slater celebrates with Beulah and the kids.

Renee Young announces that American Alpha's status is questionable going into Backlash.

The Usos show up and Jey says it feels a little different around here. He says he does not know if it came out right or wrong. Jimmy says American Alpha were in the wrong place at the wrong time. You turned your back on the Usos, but then you hoot and holler for American Alpha. They looked for respect and they are done with it.

Dean Ambrose is getting some hairspray applied as we get ready for the face off

AJ says the Champ is HERE. He says he hates to tell you that he told you so, but he wants to yell it . . . I TOLD YOU SO!! Everything he said he was going to do, he did. He told you that he was going to beat John Cena. At SummerSlam, he beat John Cena and he is the face that runs the place. Then he told you that he was going to beat Dean Ambrose. At Backlash, he beat Dean and became the new WWE World Champion. If he told you he could beat John Cena and Dean Ambrose with one arm tied behind his back, it is the truth. It is the gospel. AJ says if he gave you the lottery numbers, you would be a millionaire. If he tells you the sky is green, there is no need to look. The sky will be green.

John Cena's music plays and he makes his way to the ring.

John says you can hear these people and they know what he knows. You have something that belongs to him and he would lilke it back.

AJ says he will give it back and he gives John his wrist band since AJ has the World Championship.

John says that AJ still has something that belongs to him and the bad news is that he would like to take it back. He wants the World Championship. The greatest champion has said that to be the man, you have to beat the man. If he can hold that gold one more time, he is in the conversation with the man (Even if he wins the title he won't tie Ric, Flair is a 25 time champion, not 16. For whatever reason Vince decided to remove some NWA & WCW titles which he doesn't have the authority to do, if it was WWF/E title's fine he's within his right to do so, but NWA/WCW no way, Ric's a 25 Time Champion. Dean Ambrose comes to the ring and he gets in AJ's face. Dean says you made the biggest mistake of your life on Sunday, boy. He says he can handle losing the title, but you kicked him in the jewels to steal the title from him. You have made Dean your enemy. Your life changes when you are his enemy. Dean promises to make your life miserable. He will take back his title and he will do it with interest. He will bury you in the ground . . .

John asks Dean about complaining about hanging AJ by his crotch and the complaining about a low blow. Steve Austin was right and you have not shown that you have balls.

Dean says that John must be mistaking him for someone who gives a damn about you or what you say. He has heard enough of your rah rah. You are a lazy part-timer. You are better off doing television shows, movies, and talk shows because you cannot hang with him. WWE uses you for media appearances but you cannot get it done in the ring. Dean says you couldn't get past this chump at SummerSlam, so how are you going to beat him.

Shane McMahon's music plays and he shuffles on the stage before making his way to the ring.

Shane says with the talent in the ring and the emotion, he had to come out. He tells AJ that him and John Cena tore the house down at SummerSlam. You defeated John Cena clean and that is a huge accomplishment. Shane says he does not like AJ saying he is the face that runs this place. He earned it by beating Cena. He says Dean and AJ tore the house down at Backlash. Shane says AJ took the easy way out to win the title. Shane says that is not how he saw a new champion being crowned. AJ is the WWE Champion.

Shane says Dean will get his one-on-one rematch, but not right now.

At No Mercy, AJ Styles will defend the WWE Championship against John Cena. . . . and Dean Ambrose in a Triple Threat match.

Shane says emotions are going so bonkers so tonight John Cena and Dean Ambrose will be in a tag team match against AJ Styles and a partner of his choosing. Shane says if AJ cannot get a tag team partner, the General Manager can find one for him

“Stop signs say ‘please and thank you’ to Curt Hawkins.” “As cubs, wolves are told the tale of the wolf who cried Curt Hawkins.” “Curt Hawkins has been known to scare clocks into ticking counterclockwise.” Those were all said by Hawkins himself in a backstage vignette, with the last one said while he bent over and looked through his own legs. He said it’s time for Smackdown Live to face the facts

The Miz came to the ring with Maryse. Stills of Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler from Backlash were shown. Miz said most of the WWE Universe has been calling him a coward lately. “Coward” chant didn’t really catch fire with the live crowd. Miz said he left Backlash with his wife by his side and the I.C. Title over his shoulder. He said he’s held the title longer than 132 former champions, like Pat Patterson, Triple H, and Ziggler. He said the title is more prestigious than at any time in history. Ziggler came out to his music.

He cut a promo on his way to the ring. He said Miz is trying to sell himself to everyone in the building, but deep down, Miz knows neither the guys in the back nor the WWE Universe will ever see him as a top guy. Miz said anytime he’s on the show, he’s the main event. He said if he lived and died by what the fans thought of him, he’d be six feet under, like Ziggler’s career. The fans liked that shot. Ziggler admitted he was in a slump, but said Miz’s reign with have an asterisk because of how he’s won the title. Ziggler wanted another shot at the title, no excuses.

Maryse interrupted and was booed heavily. She’s one of the more over heels on the brand. Miz told the fans to shut their mouths while his wife spoke. But before she could get any further, Daniel Bryan came out. Bryan said Maryse cheated at Backlash, and so Ziggler will get his rematch. It’s nice to see the authority figures pointing out the cheating on Sunday (Miz and Styles) and doing something about it. Miz brought up the renegotiation stunt he tried at Backlash and said Bryan won’t get what he wants until Miz gets what he wants. Miz said he wouldn’t defend the title until Bryan acquiesced. Bryan entered the ring, causing Miz and Maryse to split. They left through the crowd

Styles walked up to Baron Corbin backstage. Styles said he knows Corbin has a rematch with Apollo Crews tonight, but offered him something better: A shot to tag with him tonight. Corbin woodenly said he’d rather be A.J.’s opponent because he wants his title

Becky Lynch came out. Charly Caruso was in the ring to interview Lynch. She asked Lynch how she feels and whether or not the moment has sunk in yet. “You deserve it” chants from the crowd. She said she was in the fight of her life Sunday. Lynch said the saying “the journey is greater than the destination” never took her journey, and her destination is pretty sweet. She said she’s a fighter and implored the women to come at her

Naomi vs Nikki Bella vs Natalya vs Alexa Bliss vs Carmella: Nikki hits the Bella Buster on Nattie for a near fall, Rear View on Nikki for a 2 count, Bliss tries to get the pin on, but Nattie stops her, Nikki posts Nattie, Alexa looking for Twisted Bliss, but Nikki goes for the TKO, Carmella Superkicks Nikki, but before she can get the pin, Alexa dumps her to the floor and takes the win. Alexa Bliss gets the title shot against Lynch

Heath Slater & Rhyno vs The Ascension: Slater climbs on Konnor's back, but he sends Heath to the floor, Rhyno with a Shoulder Block to Konnor before breaking Viktor in half with a Gore to retain the Tag Titles

AJ Styles sees Daniel Bryan and Daniel asks AJ if he has found a partner. Daniel says they have found a partner and it is James Ellsworth (you might remember this was the first guy fed to Braun Strowman right after the draft) AJ storms off

Miz attacks James Ellsworth from behind with a clothesline and then he punches Ellsworth and Miz says he is the main event so he gives Ellsworth a Skull Crushing Finale on the ramp.

AJ is shocked at the status of his tag team partner.

Miz walks to the ring and he says he is the main event.

AJ asks Miz if he wants to be his partner and they shake hands

AJ Styles & The Miz vs John Cena & Dean Ambrose: Cena with the Shoulder Blocks followed by the Proto-Bomb, Five Knuckle Shuffle, Styles tries to break up the combo of doom, but Ambrose sends him to the floor & connects with a Tope Suicida while Cena finishes Miz with an Attitude Adjustment for the win

Cena poses in the ring when Dean comes back in and drops him with Dirty Deeds as the show ends

The Usos vs American Alpha: Usos target Gable's knee, Jordan has the chance to tag but doesn't want to put risk the safety of his partner, Chopblock takes out Chad, then Double Superkicks on Jason & Jey ends it with a Samoan Splash. The Usos will face Beauty & The Man-Beast (its what Rhyno's calling them, just roll with it) at No Mercy

Backstage, Rhyno and Slater discussed facing The Usos again. Slater said it’s like the fairy tale, “Beauty and the Man-Beast.” He talked about wanting to get the WWE Universe behind them. He wanted to do an “I say Rhy, you say No” chant, similar to what the Usos used to do. Rhyno wasn’t having that. The Usos walked in, breathing heavily, saying they only lost at Backlash because they had to fight twice in one night. They were going to knock the crackers out of Rhyno’s hand. But instead, they offered to take out Slater’s knee if they didn’t give up the titles right there. Rhyno crumpled the crackers in his hand and got between Slater and the Usos. That caused the Usos to scurry away
