New NXT Tag Team Champions DIY were introduced and warmly welcomed into the Full Sail arena for the first time since winning the gold in Toronto. They went out into the crowd to celebrate with the fans as the commentators talked about them solidifying themselves as top guys with their title win.

Gargano and Ciampa finally made it to the ring where they continued to celebrate. They hit poses all over the ring and the crowd chanted “you deserve it.” They eventually grabbed microphones, but they continued to stall to entice more chants. Before they could begin speaking, they were interrupted by the music of the Authors of Pain. They made their way onto the stage with manager Paul Ellering. Ellering said there was a prophecy and its proving true. He noted that his Authors are undefeated, they won the 2016 Dusty Tag Classic, and they think #DIY are celebrating prematurely.

Before Ellering could continue, former tag champs The Revival interrupted and got a big pop. Scott Dawson recalled that the only reason the Authors were able to make it to the finals was because they interfered and helped. The Authors backed The Revival down the ramp intimidatingly and shoved them hard to the ground at ringside. Ellering simply stated that the next chapter written by the Authors will read “NXT Tag Team Champions.” The Authors backed up the ramp, Revival remained at ringside, and DIY held the ring to close the segment…

The commentators, Tom Phillips and Corey Graves checked in from the booth. They pivoted to a video package promoting “Showtime” Percy Watson for the first time in what seems like a few years. He is not returning to competition, however, as he was welcomed to the booth as the new third commentator

No Way Jose & Rich Swann vs SAnitY: What was once a bizarre quartet appeared to have been whittled down to three members. The commentators called attention to the missing member and wondered if it was a mind game of some sort. Once in the ring, Eric Young revealed that he was carrying Sawyer Fulton’s jacket. He threw it down with disgust, spit on it and kicked it away, seemingly signifying the end of Fulton’s time with the group. Swann with a Phoenix Splash on Wolfe, Jose gets sent to the floor when suddenly he was ambushed from behind and shoved face-first into the ringpost by a big burly man in a black hoodie. The commentators acknowledged the man as “Damo” (aka Big Damo from the UK, you might remember he faced Eric Young for the TNA King of the Mountain Title during the UK Tapins) and marveled at him, meanwhile EY is ending the match with The Young-Blood Neckbreaker

Sanity gathered in the ring and looked on while Damo threw Fulton’s jacket to the floor and walked out of the arena

Backstage in his office, GM William Regal was standing by to provide an update on the situation in the tag team division. He announced that The Revival will be granted their title rematch against #DIY on the January 11 episode of NXT. He proceeded to announced that the winners will go on to defend against the Authors of Pain at Takeover: San Antonio during Royal Rumble weekend. He appeared to be finished when Tye Dillinger walked in and requested a moment of Regal’s time. Dillinger was down on himself and recalled saying that if he couldn’t beat Samoa Joe last week than maybe he doesn’t belong.

Regal cut him off and instead threw another opportunity at Dillinger. He announced that next week will be the beginning of a tournament of four matches, with the winner of each advancing to a four-way match, and the winner of that match earning an NXT Championship match. Regal offered to put Dillinger in the tournament, noting that things hadn’t been going Dillinger’s way, but he sees a lot in Dillinger. Dillinger accepted the offer, and when prompted to repeat why he came into the office, Dillinger had conveniently forgotten. Regal shook his hand and saw him off. As the segment closed, Regal slipped on a pair of brass knuckles and sighed nostalgically

Dasha tried to get a word with Sanity but Young and Wolfe blew right past her. Nikki Cross stopped, but as the shot widened it was revealed that she didn’t have interest in speaking, but rather she caught a glimpse of the NXT Women’s Championship belt. She approached, but as she got close, champion Asuka appeared to snatch it up. Not a word was exchanged, but the looks told the whole story and it appears Asuka may have a new contender

Ember Moon vs Kimber Lee: Lee with a Sidewalk Slam and Lotus Lock, Ember takes Lee down with a Rana then shortly after finishes it with The Eclipse

A graphic promoted the beginning of the No. 1 Contender’s tournament next week. The advertised matches for the qualifying round are Tye Dillinger vs. Eric Young, Elias Samson vs. Roderick Strong, Oney Lorcan vs. Bobby Roode, and Andrade Almas vs. No Way Jose

Shinsuke Nakamura vs Samoa Joe: Nakamura escapes an attempted Muscle Buster, and Joe ducks the Kinshasa and locks in The Choke, Joe releases and hits a German, Shinsuke blocks The Chimera Plex, but Joe hits another German, Joe catches Shinsuke with a Ura-nage for a 2, Shinsuke up top, but Joe counters with the CCS Enzugiri, Nakamura with a Sliding Knee then looks The Landslide, but couldn't hold it & Joe falls to the mat, Shinsuke with a Diving Knee to the Back of the head then ends it with a Kinshasa to re-gain the NXT Title

Nakamura celebrated his win as the commentators put over him bouncing back so quickly after the first loss to become a two-time champion. The celebration carried on, which allowed for lots of Japanese girls to yell “Shinsuke!” and there appeared to be a guy in Asuka cosplay. He struck his pose mid-ring and the whole arena yelled “yeaoh!” because they know. Nakamura walked back up the ramp and replays aired to close the segment…

Charly Caruso appeared from the NXT control center, where she announced yet another NXT Championship rematch between Joe and Nakamura, this time in a steel cage from Melbourne, Australia

Samoa Joe vs Shinsuke Nakamura: Nakamura with a German Suplex then looks for the Kinshasa, but Joe counters into a Snap Powerslam for a 2 count, Joe looks for the Avalanche Muscle Buster, but Shinsuke counters into a Sunset Flip then walks the rope to the center & delivers a Flying Kinshasa, Nakamura is looking to escape the cage, but instead slams the door shut & nails a second Kinshasa, he stalks Joe & hits a 3rd and final Kinshasa to retain the NXT Title (really I guess you could call it the NXT World title since its been defended in the UK, Japan & now Australia)

Backstage, Kay and Royce were standing by for a promo. They denied losing and claimed Daria lost. They said they don’t associate with losers. Daria walked on set and stoically said that she wanted to hurt one of them next week, and she’ll let them figure out which it will be

Tye Dillinger vs Eric Young: Tye holds his own and takes the kneepad down early thinking about the Tye Breaker, Wolfe on the apron but gets blasted down, Cross jumps on Tye's back causing a dq

Dillinger managed to clear all three members of Sanity from the ring before he was ambushed from behind by Big Damo. Damo laid him out with a Fireman Carry and then crushed him with a Running Senton for good measure. The three members of Sanity looked on from the ramp as Dillinger was announced the winner, but they were fixated on Damo. Damo walked right through them on his way up the ramp, and the commentators questioned whether that might’ve been an audition

The Drifter was playing his guitar and singing poorly on the stage as the crowd booed relentlessly. He eventually finished and drifted down to the ring. Roderick Strong was out next, and some members of the crowd seemed excited at the prospect of him beating up the Drifter

Elias Samson vs Roderick Strong: Samson works over Roddy, but Strong builds momentum with Running Strikes before ending it with The Death by Roderick/Sick Kick combo to advance to the 4 way next week

Billie Kay vs Daria Berenato: Daria with a Spear then takes the gloves off to deliver bone-breaking blows, Kay avoids a Superman (er maybe that should be Supergirl) Punch, Billie goes to the floor with Daria giving chase, but Peyton Royce rams her into the apron, the distraction gives Kay the opening to deliver The Schoolgirl Crush for the win

The heels dumped Daria out of the ring and took microphones. They said that the same fate awaits anyone who crosses them. They called out Asuka for claiming that there was no competition left in the division, and they threatened to show her that they run things (yeah because calling out the undefeated, unstoppable champion that has completely dismantled the entire NXT Women's division sounds like a real smart move)

The Authors of Pain vs John Ortagun & Anthony Bowens: The Authors wasted no time in killing Ortagun dead knocking him off the top with a Lariat, he lands hard on his neck, Bowens decides he wants no part in this and attempts to leave when Akam stops him, Bowens goes back to the ring & says he's not afraid of Akam when Rezar charges with an Avalanche in the corner, Double Spine-cracking Powerbomb with Ortagun being Powerbombed onto Bowens face, Ortagun grabs his neck as the Authors picks him up, he's clearly hurt, yet they want The Last Chapter, the ref also realizes he's hurt and gets in Rezar's way and ends the match, Author's win by ref stoppage

Ellering had a microphone but he was clearly concerned for the well-being of the poor jobber. He said that all roads lead to San Antonio and the Authors don’t care if it’s #DIY or The Revival. He said the Authors are on a mission to become NXT Tag Team Champions

Backstage, Asuka was asked to address Billie and Peyton’s comments. Asuka said they’re no competition for her. She warned them to be careful, before her attention was drawn to Nikki Cross who was hanging from the interview set. Nikki laughed, having gotten Asuka’s attention, and she walked off. Asuka’s smile showed that she has found the competition she wants

Roddy with a Back Facebuster to Dillinger, but Tye's back up first & hits Roddy with The Tye Breaker to eliminate Strong

Dillinger puts the boots to Roode, flash pin for a near fall, Bobby goes to the floor to get a chair, but Tye counters with a Superkick for a 2 count, Roode looks for The Glorious Drop but Dillinger hits The Tye Breaker, but Roode kicks out at 2.9, Dillinger goes up top looking for an Avalanche Tye Breaker, Bobby fights out, back on the ground Dillinger looks for another Tye Breaker but Roode counters and crotches Tye on the top turnbuckle before planting him with The Glorious Drop for the win

A camera caught up with Billie Kaye and Peyton Royce attacking NXT Women’s Champion Asuka in the parking lot as she was walking into the arena. They talked some trash and left her laying as they walked off

Billie Kay & Peyton Royce vs Sarah Bridges (Crazy Mary Dobson from the indies, they're certainly picking up more talent as just in the past month or so they've signed Evie, Heidi Lovelace, Kimber Lee & Andrea to NXT contracts) & Macey Evans: The Aussies wins a quick match with the Double Team Face Breaker on Bridges

Kay and Royce had microphones in the ring. The crowd chanted “Asuka’s gonna kill you,” but Peyton said they’re Asuka’s top competition. Billie said they run the women’s division. Peyton said Asuka’s title belongs to them. Suddenly, Asuka limped out from the back and made her way to the ring. Referees tried to stop her, but she made it to the ring only to take another beating from Kay and Royce.

Out of nowhere, Nikki Cross hit the ring and attacked Kay and Royce before running them off. As they regained their composure on the ramp, Cross went to the top rope and wiped out a recovering Asuka with a missile dropkick. She stood over Asuka and laughed in a deranged manner before slowly exiting

Backstage, a new interviewer randomly jumped out of the shadows to get a word with Nikki Cross who was walking with Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe. Cross didn’t let the interviewer speak, but declared that she’s going to take the Women’s Championship from Asuka. Eric Young said the taking begins with this. They walked away, but as the camera panned over, it revealed Damo watching from the shadows…

Back in the arena, The Drifter was sitting on the stage. He played a song on his guitar and sang as the crowd heckled him

Elias Samson vs Jonathan Cruz: Samson gets the win with a Reverse Last Rites (he spins it the other way, only other person I can recall that has done it in that manner was Horshu/Luther Reigns)
