According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, numerous WWE sources have stated that there is “certainly interest” in a number of AEW stars if they become available. Ricky Starks is said to be one of those people but it’s unknown if he has been in contact with WWE. It also hasn’t been confirmed how much time Starks has left on his deal with AEW.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer said the following about AEW not using Starks…
“I think that there’s a lot of people who think he’s headed to WWE because of Cody [Rhodes], and so they’re not investing in him right now. I think that’s basically the mindset. We’ll see what happens.” (To add to that Starks is good friends with Jade Cargill & he was also a C.M. Punk guy as well)
Penta El Zero Miedo’s contract with AEW is scheduled to expire on 8/30
Penta’s brother and tag team partner Rey Fenix also has a deal that is set to expire next month.
In an update on the situation, the official Twitter/X account of WrestlePurists noted the following…
“According to multiple AEW sources, the Lucha Bros are expected to leave AEW when their contracts expire this year. Some sources speculated they were heading to WWE, some claimed it was a formality. They were originally planned for a trios title match at Wembley [All In], but plans have now changed.”
In a potential sign that Fenix is WWE-bound, New Era Wrestling announced on Thursday night that Fenix had withdrawn from their September 2nd event in El Paso, Texas…
TO OUR FANS:
TO OUR FANS:
REY FENIX WILL BE UNABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN OUR LUCHA LIBRE EVENT ON SEPTEMBER 27TH DUE TO PERSONAL CIRCUMSTANCES. WE APOLOGIZE FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE THIS MAY CAUSE, AS IT IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL.
HOWEVER, WE REMAIN COMMITTED TO DELIVERING THE FINEST LUCHA LIBRE EXPERIENCE IN EL PASO. WE ASSURE YOU OF THIS PROMISE. PLEASE STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES REGARDING THE EVENT LINEUP. BEST REGARDS, THE NEW ERA WRESTLING FAMILY.
Fenix recently filed to trademark names King Fuego, Rey Fuego and Fuego. Penta also filed for the Zero Miedo, Cero Miedo and Animo trademarks.
There were claims this week that Penta will be heading to Orlando, FL for a potential visit to the WWE Performance Center. Penta addressed the rumors about him and Fenix by writing “no more gossip” and “my present is AEW.”
According to Fightful., multiple sources in AEW believe that Penta is pushing back on the reports that he is in Orlando so that him can Fenix can leave the company without contractual hurdles. The belief is that Penta is still under contract to AEW and the company could possibly extend his deal due to injuries.
Regardless what some people think of him this is another one that would be a bit of a surprise (and almost a slap in the face with how much TK has featured and tried to get him over):
As seen during the July 3rd 2024 “Beach Break” edition of AEW Dynamite, MJF turned against Daniel Garcia. It was then reported that Garcia’s AEW contract was close to expiring.
In an update on Garcia’s status with AEW, Fightful noted that he hadn’t signed a new contract with AEW as of last week. Fightful added that one “top name” in AEW was under the belief that Garcia would be staying with the company.
PW Nexus stated the following about the situation…
“PWN was able to confirm this news and learned that Garcia is ‘conflicted’ about what he wants to do next whether it’s staying with AEW or entertaining the possibility of going to WWE. Something to keep an eye on as we get closer to October when his contract is set to expire.”

'Absolute' Ricky Starks, 'The Breaker of Bones' Pentagon Jr/Dark, 'The Man of a Thousand Lives' Fenix & 'Red Death' Daniel Garcia. Some or all of these men may soon be jumping to WWE. (Also while they were never signed it was expected at one point after leaving TNA that Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin The Motor City Machine Guns were going to AEW, that no longer appears to be the case & they too are rumored to be heading to WWE)
