NWA Spring Stampede IV

NWA Spring Stampede IV was a rousing success! Over 64,000 rabid fans packed Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, NC for the event and they were not disappointed. "Good Ole JR" Jim Ross and new NWA: Show Time play-by-man "Maestro of Mama Mia" Mauro Ranallo were on hand to call the action. Sam Ponder was the ringside correspondent. Jerry "The King" Lawler welcomed everyone to the event on behalf of the NWA "Legends of the Squared Circle" consulting group.

The following are the official results:

Match One ~ NWA United States Junior Heavyweight Championship ~ Johnny Gargano vs. Flip Gordon (commentary for this match via @theindyjunkie )

Gargano went on the attack from the start. Johnny resorted to kicking and striking Flip. He then started to wearing down Gordon's left arm and upper back. Gordon was able to hit a "Dropkick" that sent Gargano to the floor. Gordon leaped off the top with a "450 Splash" on top of Gargano. Gordon noticeably tweaked the same arm that Gargano had been working on. Back in the ring, Gordon was able to land many attacks, but avoided using his left arm. Flip connected with a "Fireman's Carry Slam." He tried to go for a "Standing Moonsault," but Johnny rolled out of the way and kicked the injured arm. Gargano focused his attacks on the left arm. He climbed to the second rope looking for a quick attack to the arm, but Gordon stepped up and "Super Kicked" Gargano out of his boots. Johnny crumbled to the mat. Flip looked for the "450 Splash," but Gargano rolled out of the way and locked in the "Garga-No Escape." Johnny dragged Gordon to center ring with the submission still applied. Gordon fought it, but eventually had to tap out.

Match Two ~ HAWK All Queen Championship "Battle Royal" (commentary for this match via @theindyjunkie )

With twenty six women in the ring, Nixon, Zoe, and Charlie found themselves in the middle. While the "Crocodile" and "Rabbit Tribes" went for Aliyah and Hania, the rest of the women in the ring focused on Nixon, Charlie, and Zoe. All three ladies were picked up and tossed out of the ring, guaranteeing there would be a new champion. Alliances quickly formed as "Marvelous" and "Joshi Idol" paired together for battle. Dulce, Reina, Zuzu, and Lilith joined forces and Kiera sided with Aliyah and Hania to battle the "Tribes." "Marvelous" sent Amale and Sera over the top rope with a combination of the "Mika Toss" into a double "Suplex." "Joshi Idol" body-surfed Kyona and Tsukushi out of the ring rather quickly as well. Kymmie and Candy went back-to-back and kept Lilith's group at bay. The "Idols" made the mistake of attacking Nikki and Isla while they were focused on Hania and Aliyah. Nikki and Isla decimated the "Idols" and tossed all but Maki over the top rope. While Nikki and Isla were busy with "Joshi Idol," Miyu was triple-teamed over the top rope by Kiera, Aliyah, and Hania. Nikki and Isla looked ready to take out Maki until they were "Dropkicked" from behind by Aliyah and Hania. Maki pulled down the top rope, which sent them over. Kiera then tossed both Hania and Aliyah over the top rope. The two brawled with Nikki and Isla on the floor all the way to the back. While this was going on, "Marvelous," unintentionally aiding Kymmie and Candy, attacked Liltih, Dulce, and Reina. Itoh took advantage of no one paying attention and eliminated Liltih and Mika. Kymmie used her power advantage and tossed Rin and Reina over the top rope. Candy got over zealous and "Clotheslined" Zuzu over the top rope, but careened over as well. Kiera blinsided Takumi and sent her over the top to the floor. This left the final four as Maki Itoh, Dulce Luna, Kymmie A Kiss, and Kiera Hogan. Maki, Dulce, and Kiera all decided to attack Kymmie. Kymmie was able to seperate them and toss Maki out of the ring. Dulce was tossed out of the ring with a "Suplex" by Kymmie. Kiera tried to catch her off guard, but Kymmie grabbed her and slammed her hard to the mat. Kymmie worked on beating Kiera down, then looked for a "Powerbomb" over the top rope. Kiera reversed into a "Hurricanrana," sending Kymmie to the floor. Kiera landed on the apron and thus won the match.

Match Three ~ WILD Symbols ~ "Tag Team Elimination" match ~ "Perfect Destruction" (Jaxson James & Brady Pierce) vs. "The Closers" (Sloan Caprice & Rick Roland) vs. Roman Reigns & Everett Connors vs. "Soldiers of Fortune" (Killshot & Dante Fox) vs. "Rusev Day" (Alexander Rusev & Aiden English with Lana) vs. "3.0" (Shane “Big Magic” Matthew & Scott “Jagged” Parker with James “Twiggy” McGee) vs. "Motor City Machine Guns" (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs. "Dragon Kings" (ACH & Kenny King) (commentary for this match via @theindyjunkie )

The match started with Rusev and "Big Magic." Rusev tossed him around like he was nothing. This made Matthew quickly tag out. Pierce and Jaxson had a good exchange with Rusev and English, each team performing various power moves on the other. Roland and Caprice also got in on this exchange of power double teams. Shelley, Sabin, ACH, and King got into the mix and used their quick attacks to get the three larger teams down. Connors and Roman did not interfere with this madness. Eventually, the melee spilled to the outside. "The Guns" and "Kings" then performed dive attacks onto all six. No to be outdone, Fox and Killshot mounted the turnbuckles and dived onto all the men outside. Back in the ring, "Jagged" started a fight with Connors. The two teams would go back and forth for a time. Roman got into the ring and prepared to hit "Big Magic" with the "Superman Punch" only to see Matthew duck the move. Roman fell victim to "Sweet Taste of Professionalism." Connors saved the pinfall. After "Super Kicking" "Jagged" out of the ring, Everett dragged Roman back to the corner and tagged himself in. He connected with a top rope Blockbuster" on "Big Magic" that got him the three-count. James came full force into the ring and went for a "Clothesline." Connors ducked and hit the rope. Romangot a blind tag in. Connors ducked a second "Clothesline" attempt, only to get low bridged by Fox. Roman rushed in for a "Spear," but got "Leapfrogged" and dropped with a "2PD." He was easily pinned. After this fall, "Dragon Kings" kept "Soldiers of Fortune" on the outside with various dive attacks. Meanwhile in the ring, "MCMG" hit all teams with a series of quick double-team moves. This left Rusev in a daze. King tried to take advantage with a top rope dive, but ate a "Machka Kick" for his troubles. Rusev covered while "SoF" held ACH outside. Fox and Killshot quickly rushed in and attack Rusev. As they bounded off the ropes, ACH and King tripped Killshot and Fox. They pulled Killshot out of the ring as English hit Fox with the "Director’s Cut," followed by Rusev locking in the "Accolade." Killshot struggled to get free, but could not save Fox before he tapped out. "Dragon Kings" left ringside shortly after. "The Closers" continued their battle of power with "Perfect Destruction," leading to the "Deal Breaker" being hit on Jaxson. Brady made the save at the last second. As the referee tried to get the match in order, Pierce slipped a chain to James, who walloped Roland in the head. He hid the chain and covered as Brady knocked Sloan off the apron. "The Guns" attacked. After they hit an impressive series of moves, the referee tried to get Sabin out and missed another chain-aided knockout punch. Jaxson tossed the chain out of the ring, then he and Brady hit the "2PD" on Shelley. Sabin tried to make the save, but a big boot from Brady stopped him inhis tracks. Realising that they had accumulated four symbols, Jaxson and Brady left the ring before Rusev and Aiden could engage them. They sat on the outside. Rusev and Aiden tried to leave ring to get them, but the referee kept them inside the ring. As the referee went about his ten-count, Jaxson and Brady were joined by Joe Hennig, who congratulated them on their four symbols. They denied the fans a clean finish as the referee counted them out.

All teams except the "Dragon Kings" and "Soldiers of Fortune" came to the ring. Their symbols were presented by the referee. Reigns and Connors got "3.0's" symbol then handed theirs over. Connors tried walked out with Reigns, talking to him about the two symbols they have. "Destruction" got their symbols with smirks and held up their four Symbols. They did not kneel, instead just tossing their symbol at "Rusev Day." All three laugh defiantly. This went on until Alexander and Aiden attacked. The crowd went wild as Rusev and English went after their new nemeses. Rusev hit Jaxson with the "Bul-plex." Aiden nailed Brady with the "Whirling Dervish." Joe looked to hit the "Perfect Driver" on Aiden, but Lana low blowed him and Rusev "Machka Kicked" him out of the ring. "Rusev Day" mounted the turnbcukles to the delight of the crowd as "Perfect Destruction" slowly headed to the back.

Match Four ~ NWA: Stars & Stripes Super Welterweight Championship ~ Sammy Guevara vs. Owen Knight (commentary for this match via @theindyjunkie )

Guevara wasted no time disrespecting Knight by giving him the finger in the opening moments. The two would quickly break into a brawl. This spilled to the outside and lead to both men performing somersaults and flips off the apron and ringside steps onto each other. The referee began to count them out. Guevara and Knight would barely get back in the ring at nine. The two exchanged a series of "Armdrags" and various kicks until Guevara hit a "Samoan Drop." Sammy followed up with a series of "Super Kicks" that left Owen on the mat. Guevara finish it impressively with a "450 Splash" that got him the three-count.

Match Five ~ NWA United States Women's Championship ~ Mercedes Martinez vs. Taeler Hendrix

This was a back-and-forth struggle from the outset. White's new change in attitude and persona has given him newfound confidence and a mean streak. Riddle has never suffered from a lack of confidence and his acumen belies his relative inexperience. White controlled the pace, but Riddle had a counter for everything. White went for "Bladerunner," but it was countered and reversed into "Bro to Sleep" for the win.

Winner and STILL Multiverse Champion = Matt Hardy by pinfall in 13:47

The sequel to this hotly contested match-up was better than the original. The action was fierce and frantic throughout. The referee never had control, but tried to exercise latitude due to the stakes. Unfortunately, he got shoved down by both teams in the heat of battle and had no choice but to call the match off.

Winners = double disqualification in 9:06 ("American Wolves" retain)

Both teams fought to the back.

Ray was impressive. She took the fight to the veteran champion. It was Ray who looked every bit up to the task of ending the reign of Apache. She kicked Faby in every way imaginable. All Apache could do was weather the storm and await a mistake. She got one that won her the match. Ray went for a "Stinger Splash," but Apache moved at the last second. Ray's head bounced off the top of the steel corner post. She bounced back to the canvas lifeless. Faby slumped down for the cover to escape with the title.

This match was born from Ricochet's clean pin of Cole a couple of weeks back on NWA: Show Time television. Cole was vengeful and looked to redeem his embarrassing loss. Ricochet has all the momentum in the world and performed like the champion he is. The action broke down when Austin goaded CM Punk. Punk went after Austin while AJ Lee charged for Britt Baker. The referee was distracted by the goings on outside the ring and missed some trickeration on the inside of the ring. Ricochet had Cole pinned after his "630 Senton Splash." Cole was dead to rights. Suddenly, Baker's best friend Chelsea Green ran down to ringside and sprayed a substance in Ricochet's eyes. Whatever the substance (it looked like hairspray), it did the job. Cole recovered and hit "Last Shot" on a blinded Ricochet for the pin.

Jim Ross described this aptly as a "slobberknocker." Indeed it was. Ranallo called it a "slugfest of mythic proportions." It was that and more. Goto looked fantastic as he renewed his rivalry with old foe Ishii. The two have waged wars over the New Japan version of the Intercontinental Championship, but never the NWA's version. It lived up to the hype. There was a chop battle that lasted thirty-seven trikes. They went for dueling "Lariats" as well. Ishii finally won after two consecutive "Brainbusters."

Match Fourteen ~ NWA World Tag Team Championship ~ Jay & Mark Briscoe vs. "Kings of Wrestling" (Claudio Castagnoli & Chris Hero)

This match was fabulous, but not exceptionally long. Hero seemed to aggravate a knee injury during the match that slowed him. It cost him, as he fell victim to the "Doomsday Device" after coming up lame following an attempted corner boot.

Steen was brimming with confidence, as was his challenger, the "One Percenter." Carter looked lean and athletic. Steen was on his game. This was a classic stalemate. Jim Cornette figured heavily into the finish, as the referee was knocked down. Carter hit "One Percent" and covered for an eternity. Cornette jumped into the ring finally and smacked him on the back of the head with his ever present tennis racket. Carter slumped over, nearly unconscious. Cornette grabbed a bottled water from a nearby fan and doused Steen's face with it. Kevin roused and jumped up, hitting his famed "Package Piledriver" on Carter for the pin.

This was a fun and chaotic match that the fans were really into. The champions controlled much of the action, keeping Kingston in their corner while Woods and Langston salivated for tags. Finally, Big E got the "hot tag" and the place went bananas as he cleaned house. Kofi took out both Donst and Lee with a "Plancha" to the outside. The finish saw Big E and Woods hit "Midnight Hour" on a dazed Everett to win the titles.

The match started out with each woman tentatively feeling the other out. There were several exchanges that popped the crowd, but that ultimately led to a stalemate. Nakajima eventually became the aggressor. Makoto, not to be denied, mounted her comeback and finally hit "Arabesque" for the win.

This was a behemoth dream match. Morgan got his share of offense in, but ate twelve "German Suplexes" before succumbing to an earth-shattering "F-5."
