How in God's name did Canelo edge the 1st fight?
By laying on the ropes, and doing jack shit in most rounds?
Did you think the draw card was fair when he fought Mayweather?
Do you also think Wladimir Klitschko beat Tyson Fury?
The first fight wasn't even close. The 2nd fight could've gone either way.
I AM a real Boxing analyst. I've watched the sport for 20 goddamn years. I've written for numerous Boxing websites. There's nobody more qualified to talk about the sport than me. There are people AS qualified, but not more qualified.
I'll grant you that Canelo landed probably the cleanest punches that were landed in the 1st fight. Problem is, he only did that in about 3 or 4 rounds, and the rest of the fight he was defensively covering up on the ropes, and just not doing enough to win or even make a compelling argument that he'd won.
The 2nd fight was a case of Canelo fighting harder, and better than he did in the 1st fight. Again landing the harder, cleaner punches, and taking less time off. Golovkin outjabbed him, and got the better of the majority of most rounds, but Canelo would land good, clean punches that were the most eye catching shots of the bout.
So I felt like Golovkin did better work overall while Canelo did better work in spurts. I don't take a lot of issue with the decision in the 2nd bout though. The 1st fight was a straight up robbery. Like Castillo vs Mayweather 1.
And by the way Paulie Malignaggi who was one of the commentators on the fights. Said that he believed Golovkin won the 2nd bout as well. His quote was something along the lines of "He fought better, and everyone would give him credit anyway if he lost a close fight where he fought better than the 1st time, but no. They have to give him a decision he doesn't really deserve, and further taint the sport, and do him no favors with fans"
