In the World of Pro Wrestling there are many men who have never made it in WWE or been huge on TV but are better than anyone you have seen on TV. Eddie Kingston is one of these talents.
The man has been on the scene since 2002 over 13 years ago, so he has proven himself a true lasting talent with 619 matches, according to cagematch.net. In his great career he has been in throughout New England independents with CZW and Chikara topping the list. He has also run through PWG on the west, IWA: Mid South in the center and FIP in the south. He found his way to wXw in Germany, Osaka Pro in Japan, and various companies in Canada. If that is not enough he has also appeared in ROH, depending how you look at it the #2 or #3 company in the US, multiple times since 2006. On top of that in multiple companies he has been the top dog. He has actually was the first and longest reigning Chikara Grand Champion at 924 days. He has held the CZW Heavyweight title which for years was an Indy achievement held by some of the best. His career has also included feuds with the like of Chris Hero (Kassius Ohno for the NXT peoples), Claudio Castagnoli (Cesaro for you WWE people), and the late Larry Sweeney. He has battled former TNA/ROH Tag Champs Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards, former WWE Intercontinental champion Kevin Steen, former ROH/GHC Jr. Heavyweight Tag champs The Briscoe Brothers, former NWA/WCW/WWF Tag team champions The Steiner Brothers, teamed with legendary wrestler Homicide, El Generico, and the list goes on.
This man is a perfect personification of the Strong Style concept outside of Japan. In the ring the man is fierce and brutal. Every move is his arsenal is a suplex variation, strike, or something that will hurt you. His key finisher, Back Fist to the Future, is a spinning back fist that looks brutal enough it has been used in storylines for companies. The storylines were about memory loss and literally knocking a man into the future and it was worked perfectly. Watching one match you can feel the pain when he hits a move. The sting of his chops, the drops of his suplexes each one looks like it would break anyone. Now you could argue it is the opponent selling but Kingston comes into the hold with aggression and fierce desire to win which comes through with hitting his moves. Each move is driven to Kingston winning. That is why his strong style arsenal suits him perfectly.
Now he doesn’t just bring amazing matches to the table, like I have said in the past this man is the total package.
This was the first promo I ever saw for Eddie Kingston, this is what made me a fan of this man. Be he Tecnico (Good Guy) or Rudo (Bad Guy) Kingston has shown his passion in promos. For me you can feel the reality of Kingston’s words. You feel he has walked a path few to none do. You are interested and pulled in by this man. At this point it doesn’t matter if he is heel or face. You want to see what he is gonna do and you want to know more about him. This is what every wrestling company wants in their top tier guy. Kingston flows in and out at the top because he can push you to want to see him and his struggle.
This promo I can’t fully give words for it. Emotion, passion, desire if you could mold all three words together it still would not be enough to describe this promo. You can actually feel the importance of this match. It is not just for a title it is for true redemption. No injury will stop him he is coming to the show and he will win. What’s more he isn’t just doing this for him he is doing it for his fallen “Brother.” The fact that he wins the title makes this promo even stronger.
In his two promos here he is on the path to get the title back. Focus is amazing and you love to see his hunt. The title means everything to him. He will turn his back on everything just to hold it again. It is even more interesting than Bryan’s hunt, to me at least.
Anger to get what he deserves. One match with Hallowicked is all he wants. He paints you this picture that so many are getting more that what he is despite how great he is, and he is. He could be a heel or a face trying to make about against “The Man” you don’t know unless you watch the shows then you know. He is a monster but he is being made not born. He is being mistreated by his home that took him when no one else would. Then he does a heel move, injuries he will inflict not maybe but will are on the companies head. You feel his anger is justified, he is good at that.
Kingston is amazing in every aspect that he covers in this business. Even as the problem child he says he is one has to wonder why WWE & TNA have not more actively courted this man? WWE has courted numerous “Problem Children” and this guy is more talented then half of them. But then again if he did go to one or the other they would not let him be what he is, the last of a dying breed. This is the glory of the independents. Kingston is able to do what he does with no or minor censor. Kingston is allowed to Shine and he shines bright. I have said this many times that if I had a company I would want this man as my main focus. He is the total package. I hope he never leaves the business and before a retirement if he does he trains at least one man to keep the dying breed going for one more generation.
